Although it is less itchy and more comfortable, the felt was definitely there for a reason. The drivers are now REALLY exposed to any dust, dirt, hair, etc (there are these 4 big half-oval holes, I could touch the magnets...). So I'll just have to be more careful to keep my headphones clean, maybe putting them in a plastic bag when not using them, and cleaning my ears before using them, lol.

And it may just be placebo effect, but it does sound a bit clearer.

What I did learn in the process is that the previous owner of these headphones already took the foam out behind the drivers (I took the pads off in order to rip off the fabric, and in order to put the pads back on, I had to unscrew open the driver enclosure, so I took a peek inside), so they truly are open headphones now. So now I know why the leak SO much sound, but maybe because of this they sound better?
They probably do indeed sound clearer! The fabric between your ear and the driver isn't just to keep out the dust and such, it plays a roll in the headphone's sound presentation as well. Compare how the bass sounded before to how it sounds now and similarly with how harsh any highs sounded as to now.

Sorry Landis, my ears aren't quite that attuned that I could describe the before and after, or any highs, lows, and whatever else for that matter. I just notice that the sound is just... clearer, really. Maybe. Honestly, maybe I'm just not remembering how it sounded before, but I'm liking where it is now.

So I'm happy.

But I might have to tape up the outside speakers or something, because they really leak a lot of sound, and it's probably disturbing my roommate. Would just some normal transparent tape work?

raw is so last week man. The new healthy is cultured. Soak your phones in milk, and a few spoonfuls of yogurt for a couple days until it builds up nice thick yellow strands. Take them out, and put them right onto your head. You don't want to wash them first, because it will kill off all the beneficial bacteria. Its best to leave them on overnight, so cue up your whole pink floyd library or something.

Your headphones will be in a world of pain if you've got dandruff :3

@rhythmdevils: OMG, really? I mean, it makes sense, all that yogurt yeast combined with milk's vitamin D and smooth texture. But I think you forgot to mention that I need to microwave them after adding the two ingredients -- otherwise, it would take AGES for the beneficial bacteria to surface. And as a bonus, the microwave radiation will cancel out all the harmful electromagnetic radiation from the drivers! What a great idea!

I'll be sure to try this out tonight (but this time, I'll make sure to wait and read everyone's input before doing it). Guys, there's nothing dangerous about this right?

*eager*

Edit:

Yes, Adamora, but I'm sure rhythmdevils's suggestion will take care of that right away. So ingenious...
