Can you ask him about the sq and the price of the J3? I'm using a fuze with rockbox and want to upgrade to the J3 or S9. My local store has the 32GB s9 on sale for $269 so I wonder if I should pull the trigger now or wait for the J3 when I travel to asia in May. And the S9 is running low on stock as well now...

My dad isn't into hi-fi so I don't think he can help much in terms of telling us about SQ. I don't know if he can even listen to it in store. However, I'm sure it sounds just as good as the S9, if not even better. He said that from the place he went to check the J3 out, the 16GB was approximately $250 and the 8GB was about $200. I say approximately because he gave me a rough estimate from looking at the price in Korean Won.

I've heard people say all cowon's sound good, anyone think there's a chance the J3 sounds as good/better than the discontinued q5w? I like my q5w sound very much, and the video, but everything else about it is bad, especially the 5-6 hours of flac playback. If people can confirm this sounds as good as q5w I will likely get this.

I got my Cowon J3 from AdvancedMP3players a couple of days ago. I asked for the 16GB version but they were out of stock so I settled for the 8GB version considering it has microSDHC card support so I can increase the capacity if needed. The Sound Quality of this player is awesome. It is much better than the D2 and the bass and overall SQ is far superior.

 

The only thing I was disappointed with was the fact that the Cowon J3's build isn't all metal like what was mentioned here. Anyway it is a great sounding DAP which has SQ up there with the Sony X1060 which I own too.
