Lost and Found Music

I misplaced a 50-disc modular CD rack several years ago. I searched everywhere, but no luck. I figured somebody stole it. But no!! I was cleaning out the house in the aftermath of my wife's passing last year, and found a large rubbermaid bin filled with old clothes, and the missing disc rack at the bottom.

I had replaced only a few though. The Blade Runner soundtrack and a couple Metallica CDs, especially the Kill Em All with Blitzkrieg and Am I Evil on it. The one that really hit me was Def Leppard's Hysteria. What a blast from the past. Our house was party central on the weekend and Hysteria seemed to be the one album eveyone liked... in the early 90's.

Nice find Moon. I've never lost Cds but I have a rather large collection so many go unnoticed for a long time. It's always fun to rediscover old music.

I have had a similar experience...twice! The first time I also found a rubbermaid full of old cd's in the back of my closet, I swore that I had lost them when moving but lo and behold I found them. Second time it happened was when my old Rio Karma mp3 player which previously refused to boot up magically turned on one day giving me access to a ton of old music that I hadn't backed up on my computer.

I love listening to music that I haven't heard in a long time, its amazing how strong a connection my brain makes between music and memories, almost like looking through an old photo album. It may have been five years since I listened to a certain song or album but usually I can instantly recall where I first listened to a song.

It's always the good music you lose... I've tried losing all my bad albums, but I keep finding them.

A long time ago, I lost a lot if important anime music in an unfortunate HD crash. I was truly devastated, because a lot of that music had very important emotional associations for me.

Some time after the advent of bit torrent, I was downloading some random Yoko Kanno soundtracks. I loaded up the Vision of Escaflowne OST 1 and started playing a song, "Poketto o kara ni sh*te" (stupid filter) without knowing what it was. After the first few measures, I was literally in tears. I had inadvertently rediscovered one of my favorite songs of all time, one I hadn't heard in nearly a decade. That is one of the few moments in my life when I can say I experienced true joy. Not just happiness, but honest-to-goodness joy. I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

Sorry for your loss Moontan. I have been burning CD's for the last 3days and many from an old cd rack that I just didn't look at anymore. Lots of 80's stuff and some old forgotten progrock stuff....what a treat! As I type this I am listening to some Squeeze.

Nice find!
Def Leppard's Hysteria certainly bring back some memories over here as well.
