Need some help with lounge music, please.

Hey everyone,

Simple and sweet. My folks are opening a a restaurant/lounge and have asked me to help them with ideas for music in the lounge.

They are looking for mostly down tempo, lounge type music. Nothing lyrical, or at least not too much lyrical stuff, since it's a place for conversation.

I don't listen to a lot of jazz and the like, so I'm not real help to them but I'd like to get a good list together so I can sample some and let them know what they need to purchase.

Thanks!

Look up a 2 CD collection called Art Deco.

Also look up a 10 CD set called Music For Bachelor Pads. Space age pop music might work too.

For jazz - look up Kind of Blue and leave it on repeat.

Cantoma - self/titled
Gotan Project - La Revencha Del Tango
Ronny Jordan - A Brighter Day
Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By
Wes Montgomery - Willow Weep For Me
Bill Evans - Waltz For Debby
St.Germain - Tourist

I'll try to think of some more, good luck.

Go to SomaFM: Listener Supported, Commercial Free Internet Radio and listen to the Illinois Street Lounge station. Is that what you're looking for? If so, start there. You could stream the station as there are no commercials. All artists/song title/albums are listed as they play. Hope that helps!

Hmm, try the ninjatune.net.home label. Quite a few of good downtempo, jazzy stuff but it's more electronic than it is actual jazz.

Let me suggest Beegie Adair, she's the ultimate Lounge Pianist. Go here to listen to samples.

Not sure if you mean "slow" reggae or "downtempo" club mixes that are reggae-inflected, but here's another instrumental disc with beats, horns and a reggae-ish vibe.

The Blue Series Continuum - GoodandEvil Sessions

YouTube - The Blue Series Continuum/GoodandEvil sessions-Then Again

Stay with it until the horns kick in. Hope this helps…

Well, no vocals but its electronic dub type music ->

intrusion - the seduction of silence

and in that same genre but this one feels a little less sweet

rod modell - vibrasound

Also you might want to give anything by the detroit escalator company a shot (try his album black buildings)

I highly recommend the Gotan Project. I helped a friend open a restaurant/lounge last year and Gotan Project is on heavy rotation for his lounge music; very popular amongst his patrons.
