Best IEM for around 100$...Mostly Alternative Rock :)

Hi Everyone

I actually own a pair of cx300 that im using with an iPod Nano 4G ( I know it isn't the best device on earth, maybe in the future i'll get something better like a cowon, dunno yet).
I've got them since a few years, and i used to enjoy them ( well, previously i only had the apple earbuds and the sennheise mx360, so it was actually an upgrade over them ), anyway im not enjoying that sound signature anymore.
They sound too bassy for the kind of music that im listening, IMOH.
In fact i can't stand them anymore without the ipod's treble booster EQ.

Well, im looking for a pair of IEM for around 100$.

These are the artists im listening to most of the time lately:
-Paramore
-Mogwai (A post rock band)
-The Killers
-Muse
-Franz Ferdinand
-Three Days Grace
-Depeche Mode
-Coldplay
-Arctic monkeys, Carly comando (Piano music), Eminem, Fall Out Boy, Giovanni Allevi, Howard Shore, Katy Perry, Lily Allen, Ok Go, Panic at the Disco, U2, Wolfmother etc...

What would you suggest?
I was browsing the forum and it looks like the RE0 may be a good solution.
I read that either the HJE900 sound good but amazon doesnt ship to europe :\

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps me out

Edit: Almost everything is ripped as mp3 at 320kbps CBR

Really? You didn't think you were the 1st person to ask for $100 IEMs for rock music, did you? I understand you are new, which is why I can only suggest familiarizing yourself with the search function.

One or more of the 10 bazillion threads on this subject should help you find an answer.

Well, first of all, i don't get why you needed to be so rude with that answer. As you said, there are 10 bazilions of similiar threads, you're right. But if you spent a bit more than a minute reading them, you would have found out that no1e acted the same way that you did in those threads, not even in the generic threads like the ones titled "What's the best IEM for 100$".

Second, im browsing the forum since a few times and i already did some research, in fact i wrote that i was considering buying a pair of RE0.
Anyway, im still a total noob and that is the reason i opened another thread:i needed some help. Im learning fast by browsing head-fi (to be honest i didnt even know what an amp is until a month ago), but im still not good enough to understund most of the technical stuff that i read on the forum.

Third, you posted a load of double links (check by yourself), and most of them are related to generic questions ("Which headset should i take for gym", "which one for work" are just a few examples of the threads that you linked. Most of them didnt even write the kind of music that they listen to.).
The only similiar (we had just a band in common ) thread was the first that you linked, which i already read this afternoon, and its the one from where i found out about the panasonic HJE900.

This would be the second IEM experience for me. I opened a new topic because i was looking for someone more experienced than me, who could help me, based on the bands that i listen and on my past experience with the cx300. I was not looking for the generic answers i could find on the other threads.

Trust me, it wasn't my intention to spam. I understund your point of view, if any1 open a generic thread the forum would get full of spam, but as you can see, my thread is not based on a generic question.

Even thought i may look upset from my reply, trust me, im not

p.s. i apologize for my lame english but as you probably know, english classes sux badly here in italy, and im studying the language by my self. As a 17 years old student, I'm doing my best. Sorry for the huge wall of text tho

Thank you for the reply. How are they compared to the RE0?
To be honest im really tempted to buy the head-directs, i keep reading positive feedbacks in a load of threads. I'm just not sure enough if they would sound that good streight out of my ipod without an amp.
The RE0 would be fine out of an ipod if you like that kind of sound signature. An amp is recommended but it sounds good unamped as well.
I would second that recommendation for the RE0, and although an amp is not necessary, a CMOY amp can be bought for less than $40 on ebay
post #7 of 13
I don't excuse the first responder for being a little snippy, but it does get annoying after a while that thread after thread after thread after thread of the same topic are posted by new people, it does appear as if they didn't bother to search. TO the OP, if you had a different question than what was asked int he numerous topics with the a very similar heading, i would have stated it up front. That would have made a response that is specific to your question easier.

But on topic, the Klipsch phones have good base and go for a hundred or less (like the S4). I also concur that a small inexpensive amp, like a CMOY or Fiio can help alot, even with $100 phones, that is how I started, and very slippery slope it is.
I think the fact that he already mentioned the HJE900 and RE0 shows that he's done extensive searching already. Personally think it's totally fine to make new threads for buying stuff in this forum. If I'm going to spend 100 bucks on equipment, then I want to make sure I get the right thing, and I really don't think it's bothering anyone but rather it's making it easier for future people who are interested in products to find relevant threads.

Anyways, shame about the HJEs... I think you'd be happy with the RE0s though. I haven't heard them, but from what I've read they will sound fine without an amp. It's just that for a headphone that is so transparent, having a better source feeding themwill simply make them sound better.

Just don't try this "hai guyz, whats teh best for $100" in the full sized forum, you might get an ear bit off. Here in the portable forum we tend to be more tolerating and actually help.
RE0, HJE900,Klipsch image S4 are highely recommended but some other IEMs like Turbine, Jamz, D-Jays, JVC FXC80, Sennheiser CX6 and EX500.
I'd take the turbines if you like rock and a deep vibrant bass. Its available from newegg.com for $99 last time I checked. Klipsch S4 is extremely comfortable, I think the RE0 is very well balanced from the reviews I've read so there you go. I was one of those noobs that asked the same under $100 question and I got a lot of helpful answers. Back 2 years ago, RE0 didn't exist, and I don't think S4, Turbine, or many of those other ones were out either so NuForce was as good as it gets for under $100 for a well balanced pair of in ears.
For what you've listed, I think the RE0's will be great.

Thank you for the RE0 feedback. From what i read on the forum and your feedbacks im seriously considering buying them.
And thank you for CMOY suggestion! I was considering buying a Fiio amp, because i didnt know about CMOY amps.
The DIY of the CMOY looks good for learning purpose, i just must check if its easy enough for me I'm gonna read tangent's for that purpose.

Thank you for the reply. As i said, i tried to be as specific as possible, by posting the bands im listening to, and by writing about my current experience with the cx300, which i cant stand anymore without the ipod's treble booster. I'm not hating the bass coming out of them, the point is they are the only thing that i hear from my cx300 without the booster. No detail, no high frequency at all.

I read on a few reviews that the S4 are midrange-centric, with heavy bass and decent treble. How would you consider them for the kind of music that im listening?

Talking about the HJE900. Well, im reading good stuffes about them, but i cant find them for 110$ outside amazon.com, which wont ship where i am :|
Actually they are on amazon.co.uk, which is doing a pretty different price (119£).

Well, im considering the RE0, the HJE900 theres no way i can buy them here in italy, and about the S4 i dunno.
Talking about the other you named like the CX6 and the Monster Turbine, they looks as bassy as the cx300 and scares me

Well, i think they would be too bassy but im not sure. Imma find a few more reviews about them.
