Woo my grados and uDac arrived today .

I've got an awesome time ahead of me comparing my HD595 with soloz cable, AKG K601 and Grado SR225. Also the uDac and my Lyrix pro. And I can run both of those through my Little Dot II .

Hells yeah

Well if this is just a celebration party, shouldn't this be in the members lounge or something? Looking forward to hearing your impressions in this thread.

So far I've been listening mainly to the SR225 and nuforce udac since I got them.
I love the grados. They are so incredibly light on your head and comfy as hell.
A lot of people mention that grados are uncomfy and I've found that after about 3-4 hours listening my ears do get a little bit sore at the top from the small amount of force exerted on them. But overall the lack of weight makes such a big difference.
Compared to them, the AKG K601s feel like a vice clamp on my head and I find myself fiddling with the K601s all the time while wearing them.
Sound quality wise the K601s seem to have more detail and more/lower bass than the grados.

I'm doing a brief comparison between the headstage lyrix and the nuforce udac right now and the lyrix has a lot more bass, especially with the bass boost turned on. This could be why I thought the K601s had more bass than the sr225 as I havent tried the K601 on the udac properly yet.

Bottom line is I love the grados and will definately be keeping them. After a properly detailed comparison between them all I'll most likely be selling the Hd595 and the K601 even though they may have more detail than the grados. The grados just grab me in a way that the others don't seem to do.

Music wise I've been listening mainly to electronic stuff: Apparat, Boards of Canada, Moderat, Trentemoller, Plastikman,
and a little bit of non-electronic: Imogen Heap, Frou Frou and JJ Cale.

You wanna pick up some RS2s (literally). They are as light as a feather!

Glad you're enjoying the SR-225s. I miss mine still (I sold them), but have HF-2s, so that crave for a Grado has been fulfilled You will never want to let go of the Grado sound signature once you get used to it.

Yeah stang I can't see myself selling these any time soon unless I move up the grado line. $500 is too steep of a step up at this point though.
I've got too many midi controllers on my list to get next.

I'm planning on giving the SR225 a proper run on my little dot II tonight too.

Glad that the Grados are working well for you! For the electronic stuff, seeing as I am a huge fan of the Warp Records roster and adore the new Moderat like everybody's business, you may later want to try out a pair of Denon D2000's. They are amazing with most electronic music and are rather affordable. Plus, they are driven nearly as easily as a Grado and should suit your current rig uDac well. Okay... so I am jumping a bit forward: Enjoy the new cans and at least keep the Denons in mind for the future.

Let us know how it goes with the SR225. I have a SR80i now but considering stepping it up to the SR225.

BTW, do you have the regular 225 or the 225(i) version?

Yeah Sampson I love the Moderat album and you just made me realise they have an earlier album! :O
I'll be grabbing that asap. I forgot to mention I've been loving the new Four Tet album too. The Angel Echoes and Love Cry tracks in particular.
I think I need to do a lot more exploration of some other Warp artists, they seem to have some legendary artists hosted there.

Denons aye. They look quite interesting, I havent tried some proper closed cans yet (apart from the HD202). That's probably what selling my other cans will fund now. You prick :P .

Edit:
Outlawdon - I have the regular SR225 but it's got an aftermarket cable (not sure who it's made by).
Here's the original pics from the seller (I havent taken any of my own yet):

Haha. No harm intended! Do check out the new Caribou 'Swim' album - not out yet, but readily available online and completely unreal - as well as Burial's 'Untrue' and the new Autechre, which is surprisingly pleasant. I love the new Four Tet as well. The first Moderat colaboration between Apparat and Modeselektor (also awesome in their own right) was an EP from 2002. (From Wikipedia: "Their first full length album was released seven years after their first EP, due to some creative disagreements and different opinions on how they should work." - They did not at all get along the first time they worked together; nearly killed each other, actually.) The D2000's are grand cans and I would be very surprised if they don't work extremely well, given your (excellent) taste in experimental/electronic tunes.

Cheers man I'll check out Caribou and Modeselektor aswell.
I heavily overplayed burial when it first came out (and i still go back to it now and then) and I can't decide whether i like the new Autechre or not. A few of the tracks stand out quite well but the disjointed beats don't seem to be sticking with me very well. Still an enjoyable album though.
The denons will have to wait quite a while for now. They've made the list though.

I've been comparing cans a bit tonight and the grados are winning hands down.
Comparing Frou Frou, Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap.
The HD595 sounds really muffled or "veiled" (overused much?). The K601 sounds very lush and I recon they'd probably scale up quite well with a more expensive amp but they're still much heavier than the grados. They have a much larger soundstage aswell which I thought I would have preferred but I actually prefer the grados over this.
The grados by comparison, everything sounds much closer and more energetic and more fun.

My bowl pads also arrived today and so far I prefer the flats for comfort and sound. I'll have to compare these much more at a later date.

Most of this comparison has been done with the headstage lyrix dac/amp as the K601 seemed to be a bit underpowered by the uDac. More comparison to be done here aswell though.

I liked the bowls with my MS1s . Glad you're loving your gear
