Just got a SID Disc

Just got the SID Disc. Popped it in and WOW. The bass is power powerful. The music is more. Like another layer is peeled away for clarity.
You guys know me always swapping IC's, Power cables, fuses. IEC inlets, Power distribution, wall outlets, brass footers, wood blocks, etc, just looking for anything to make music sound better. Even have a few CDs shaved and marked with a green pen.
I would honestly say if you can notice any change in your rig you would like this tweek. It is one of the easier tweeks, just lay on top of your CD and press play that's it.
I got it here for more info on how it works highend-electronics Products: SID

I did listen to another head-fiers SID on their rig at a meet. Thought it would be a cool tweek to try. To me this one is a keeper.

Yeah i stopped by his place and listened it, didn't think a stupid little tweak would like that would make a difference, i didnt hear much of a difference with cd shave thing he did previously, but listening to this pad thing with and without, you'd be dumb not to jump on something as simple as a tweak like this, it seems to add some much need heft and weight to his disc's, bigger sound stage, very obvious on the New Order disc we we're listening too, but then again what the heck is this material, the material feels as if was cut out of cheapy plastic mead binder Five Star® Flex® NoteBinder®

I have a couple of these Gil, i wanna do a comparison between my plastic mead binder cut out in the shape of a cd and your 40 dollar SID commercial cutout with hi fi material!

I've played with various "CD Mat" types over the years, including Audioprism CD Blacklight, and yeah, they make a difference.

Then I went 100% hard drive based.

Now I need you guys to rip CD's with and without your mat and report if the files sound different when played back from hard drive...

Until there is a uniform format to Rip CD's to go Hi-Def, it will be a while before I even think about it. Right now to me CD's are easier to deal with. No worries about losing tracks.

???
Ripped CD's will always be redbook quality, not High Resolution (DVD-A, SACD), no matter what format is used. The term "Hi-Def" also usually is used to describe video, e.g. HDTV, not audio.

You gotta realize that at about that time of day Big Poppa has probably had about 6-7 buttwiper(budweiser) beers and is about as sharp as a plastic butterknife, and yes for convenience a hard drive based music server is the way to go, if i were BPoppa, id get a modded Oppo BluRay SE player and plug in a usb hd ripped with eac copies of my cds and call it a day.

Maybe if i just spray paint all my CDs green it will do the same thing?
I tried one of those CD green pens once and i think it worked, unless it was all in my mind.

Big Poppa, that would be FLAC. Every HiRes download site offers FLAC files. foobar and Media Monkey support FLAC. EAC and dBPoweramp rip to FLAC. I got an M2Tech HiFace and soon had it playing 24/192 FLAC fed from the Samsung NC10 netbook. The Oyaide DR-510, the Benchmark DAC1 Pre and the Sennheiser HD800 with Moon Silver Dragon cabling provided the other essential links. Driver installation was a snap just following the directions in the included PDF. Placed the driver disc in the optical drive, attached the HiFace and let windows find the driver. I had already configured the latest version of foobar for kernel streaming, so I only needed to choose HiFace KS in output preferences to play music. No glitches using foobar with the HiFace, unlike the E-Mu 0404. The HiFace can be plugged in and unplugged at will. It needs to be connected before starting foobar, of course.

Another cool thing about FLAC is the ability to burn a copy of the CD from the ripped files and a cue sheet using Burrrn. That makes FLAC an archival storage medium.

Hey Stan, is there away of getting rid of the homogenized sound from ripped music? I still prefer the colored sound of a CD player compared to music files. Have more opportunities to tweak the sound with separate audio components. With computer audio the chain is quite small to tweak. Know that some point eventually I will go to that direction but for now it is CD's for me for critical listening.

Yep, I am aware of that my friend. In the next little bit I should have the brewery meet squared away. Are you going to have your BA anytime soon? Still have those tubes waiting for you.
