Thanks for the link. There was a fascinating interview I read once about Heifetz and the fact that he never made any mistakes. When asked about it, he said: "I make mistakes all the time, but the difference with me is that I correct them before the audience hears it." Or something to that effect.

The Hahn version of the Mendelssohn that you mentioned is definitely one of the better ones; I do like Heifetz's version as well, particularly his first mono recording in 1944 with Toscanini. Another one is Eugene Ysaye's somewhat surreal recording of the Mendelssohn (3rd movt. only) made in the early 20th century.
