USPS Possibility of stealing my ....

I received a package today for a trade I did with my iems from the UK to the USA. I finally received the package after a delayed wait (it arrived in the US from the UK on the 15th/16th of March). I was afraid that something went wrong because my iems that were sent to the UK arrived on the 17th.

Regardless, I finally received my box today...except that I realized that the bottom of the box is loose, with a piece of tape taping diagonally across the original tapes to hold the box together. I was a little afraid, but went home and cut open the tape that was holding the box together....I looked through the styrofoam and realized that the Ortofon e-Q7s are MISSING!

I still have not received a reply from the person whom I traded yet, but he showed me pictures of what he packed in the box, up to the delivery of the package. Chatting with him through gmail, he seemed quite genuine so my first assumption was that USPS ripped open my package apart and stole my Ortofons. I understand this is a federal offence and I would naiively hope that people in the mail room did not do this?

On another note, the sender did note the earphones to be worth $20...I would hope that they didnt crack open the package for $20 iems..but what could've possibly happened? Also, what action should I take?

i'd rather trust usps than the guy you traded with

That sucks man. I assume there isn't any recourse with USPS if they weren't insured. I had a similar situation happen to me when I sold a Nokia 5530 cellphone and when the package was delivered, the person claimed the phone was missing, but the original box and everything else was still there. Damn PayPal for holding the funds, because the buyer immediately opened a claim and froze my PayPal funds until it was paid. Even to this day, I'm still don't buy the story that someone from the USPS stole just the phone and delivered the package as I requested for the original packaging box and materials to be shipped back to me. When it arrived, it didn't appear to be tampered with. I honestly think the buyer may had pulled a fast one this time, but remember - what comes around goes around.

Good luck. Hopefully, there's a happy ending to your ordeal. Not to add more salt to your wound, but I've read recent articles of post workers stealing money and gift cards - pretty low and pathetic.

This is true. Tons kind of trouble they'd get into by the US Postal Inspectors if the workers were to steal goods.

It's already considered a federal crime stealing mail. I really hope all is well with you and your problem gets solved.

Oh wow,....go to the post office and report it and see what can be done. They know more about this sort of thing than we do i suppose.

Hmm isn't it possible that the box just tore? You gotta tape the edges of your boxes guys!

I had quite a long chat with the guy I traded with.

He even shared some of his experiences with high end iems that he has tried. Along the way, he even provided me photos of anything that I wanted to see. I actually traded one pair of iems for two...and I received one pair (the cheap ones). The thing is, there's a diagonal piece of tape that was taped across the seems of the box above the original tape that supposedly sealed the box entirely....thats what made me suspect of USPS theft. But again, I don't know anymore who not to trust.

*He also has a few positive feedbacks previously...

Lets just say, IF, it is the guy who did not ship out the iems...in what way should I approach him?

I don't think it could be usps theft.... it's so unlikely.

If USPS workers stole it, I doubt you'd have ever got the Package. I don't know for sure about international shipping, but USPS mailed within the CONUS can actually be traced back to every worker that ever touched it, well, at least in the past thay could, can't say for sure about today.

I guess it could be possible but it seems highly unlikely that they would take it if its marked at $20 and then deliver the package to you. It would make more sense just to not deliver it if someone from USPS stole it.

However I have used USPS for a long time and never had an issue like that with USPS

USPS don't play like that. Do have a little inside knowledge. My mom just retired from there and have a Postmaster for a cousin. Most my family works there. It may be just an unfortunate situation and I feel bad for you. I trust USPS more than anybody else by experience. From time to time I would ask for a little help.

it seems he prepared the photo just like he expected this could happen this. cant get more suspicious than that.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune, buddy. While I can't speak for USPS, I have worked for both FedEx and UPS and have seen my share of boxes splitting open while loading them in trucks. Typically, a package handler has so many boxes to move about that there wouldn't be much time to steal. If a box opens, anyone re-taping the box would make a diligent effort to repack the contents. A possible scenario is the box somehow opened up in transit (ie, box was dropped or trapped between something while moving through a conveyor belt, etc.) and not all of the contents got back inside, because someone didn't realize there was a piece missing. Call your USPS distribution center and explain the issue to a supervisor. I hope you come to swift and sound resolution.

I'd like everyone to NOT get too suspicious at the other party. I have sent photos of the package to some of my buyers.

Like Jaywalk, I still believe the box was damaged in transit.
