Mini3 R5 question

A question about R5 in the Mini3. What purpose does it serve? I can get 5.6R or 6.8R, not 6.2R, can I substitute it with one of these values? If yes, which one? Why carbon instead of metal film? Thanks!

I would think either would be fine, provided it fits well physically, per amb's notes in the parts list. Note that the Farnell part number shown (Farnell 9343504 (6.8Ω)) is a 6.8 ohm. I am guessing carbon film is acceptable for damping? Metal film is also fine here per the parts list.

IIRC, R5 is there to isolate the output of the op-amp against the possible capacitance of the cable.

I think it is spec'ed as a carbon as it is hard to find the right physical size resistor in metal film.

The R5s help keep you from blowing up the op-amp if you happen to uplug the headphones while the amp is on (the AD8397 has no output short circuit protection).
