Hey everyone!

Recently i came across this website while searching for a new pair of IEMs - read some of the forum threads and realised that i know pretty much nothing about audio stuff. lol

But i'm pretty keen on learning about the whole works though... something about being able to enjoy music at a whole new level sounds exciting ^^

So i was just wondering how u guys started out learning audio

Also, does anyone know of some useful materials like books or software that they can recommend to a newbie?

Much thanks *

Depends how far you want to get into audio. Hobby? Career? Obsession....

For hobby - start out reading here. There is a wealth of information here on head-fi as well as on the Steve Hoffman forums over at www.SteveHoffman.tv You can learn about gear here and about mastering from the Hoffmanites.

For Career - PM me.

For Obsession - anything goes, especially if you make a career out of it.

Hope that helps and welcome to head-fi!

Just acquire and nice audio rig of some kind and then look into music. That of course combined with searching and reading articles/information on the <internet>.
This forum is a wast source of information as well, so use it for what it is worth.

Just get used to the feeling of more money leaving your wallet than coming in.

Best IEMs i heard so far have been Monster Turbines Gold and Copper......, but honestly, ive only heard IEMs up to $120 before that, and headphones up to $1500, but i still know good sound hearing speakers over $50,000 and these sound good.

So what music do you like and what are you looking for?

I got some Sennheiser 555s for Halo 3 and somehow found this site. Since that time two years ago I've been hooked and dropped video games as my hobby (was really into that; national tournaments and whatnot), and have been completely absorbed in this.

But yea I just came here and read a LOT and meh, here I am now
But yea... it can be overwhelming when you just start out; just start at the basics and read. I'm kinda confused as to where I should start in the full sized cans section; I only really know about portable sources and IEMs right now

thanks for the warm welcome guys

i guess its more of a hobby thing .. lol still new so im guessing im saying no to the career offer :P

@Drag0n : hmm actually im not too picky about wat i listen, as long as it sounds nice (?!) . Probably more into 80s pop and soft and punk rock? yeah come to think of it i don't really have a favoured genre lol

lol young spade i agree it's pretty overwhelming ; when i read one article i have to wiki most of the terminology lol but i'll keep at it bit by bit!!

^ iTunes? 10 band EQ which seems to get the job done.
For those who like equalizers that is.
