Ipod Touch - mediocre sound
Ipod Touch with LOD - mediocre sound
Ipod Touch with amp - okay
Ipod Touch with LOD & amp - okay

What improvement does the LOD bring. At best a minimal change for most people. For the finicky, maybe a 5% improvement.

For all the people saying the 3GS is better ... doesn't the iPod Touch 3G have the same internals as the 3GS??

That's what I thought. It sounded decent when I had it compared to my Walkman X. I preferred its sound signature (bright) to the Walkman X1060s (warm), but didn't want to have to carry it around with an amp, so I kept my Walkman X (as an amp did nothing more for me).
