The room I heard the MG 1.6QR system in was actually rather small (relative to rooms Maggies are usually suitable for) but very well-treated. I can say for sure that I wasn't the only one who was impressed by the system. I have no doubts that you could get a beefier and better amp for less than the price of the Nova, of course. I think value is the name of the game here, though.

Though yup, I do listen relatively quietly in a reasonably small room.

Yeah, I was also considering the Decco2. It's a great unit, though slanted more towards being a preamp. The cost savings from the Nova cannot be ignored, that's for sure.

Yeah, not sure if this is common in more expensive audio equipment with remotes. Would be interested to know!

Funny, I'm also college-fi'ing from NYU, and from HKUST next fall.

Now I got it, Thanks for your analysis! It's good for reference.

Would this pair nicely with the HE-500 or the LCD-2?

Haven't a clue. I stopped paying attention and worrying about DACs/amps nowadays. I'd probably have been fine with a much less expensive unit since I've started paying attention to the science of this stuff.

But it sounds pretty darn nice with my speakers, that's what I know for certain. biggrin.gif

I didn't know but, they are really big amps!

I listened to LCD-2 (rev 2) through a Burson HA-160d and the Nova last week. I thought the Nova compared very favorably (I couldn't really discern any differences). Whether that's the Nova being a good amp or my ears not being golden, I can't say.

I have a Nova on order and can't wait to start listening to my HD600's through it.

Thanks.  I was thinking on getting the Nova but its huge!

Because it's an integrated amp. How do you intend to use it (headphones, speakers, number and type of sources)?

Im just a college student so I just need it as a HP dac.

Well, if you only need a DAC, why would you even consider the Nova? Instead, you should look at the Peachtree Audio DAC-iT. It's DAC is more robust than the Nova's DAC (32 bit Sabre 9022 vs. 24 bit Sabre 9006) and it's 1/3rd the price ($450).

How would the found of the saber 9022 sound compared to the 9006?

The potential is there for the 9022 to sound noticeably better. Truer to the original master.

Of course, the DAC is only one step of the chain.

What is the bit rate of the music, what is the bit rate capability of your source (iPod dock, laptop computer, CD player, etc.), how good is your amplifier, how good are your headphones, how discerning a listener are you, etc.

If you can tell the difference between DACs like these I'd be really impressed.

The Nova is an excellent investment into a future personal stereo system. It was the gateway for my speaker pairs and will continue to be.

I agree completely. My Nova replaced a 25 year-old receiver. It powers my speakers, has all the analog and digital inputs I need, sounds great, and is a high quality headphone amp.

It's everything I need for now and the foreseeable future.
