That doesn't apply, correct. The lod is shut off when the phone is answered.

no, that is not the case at all. i assumed that as well, but from my first post, I said I've found from testing:

As I mentioned in some other part of the forums (and my sig), I've decided that I preferred listening to my iphone 3gs unamped, but I still believe that the schematic I drew out is the best way to use an iphone with LOD/amp & still answer calls without removing your IEMs

Yeah, I saw and read your post(s), thanks for confirming for me. I had thought that maybe because the LOD from ALO cost over 150 bucks, it may work differently then some of the less expensive ones (was not sure what LOD you used)...but, I guess not.

So did you test your schematic from theory to practice yet?

Also, if you will still need to pull out your phone to speak into the mic when receiving calls, why not just unplug your headphones from the amp that you are using via LOD and plug them into the phone headphone jack? Then you get to keep your iems in and take the call normal? Am I missing something?

I'm still awaiting for the 1F->2M splitter I ordered to arrive, and I'll update then how well it works.

about simply unplugging from LOD/amp and plugging to headphone out... that works fine, it's what I'm already doing right now actually... I just wanted less steps once I'm settled in studying

Thanks for sharing. I am very intrigued to see if this will work, or not. I will be ordering my amp/lod in April (researching now) and it seems you and I are after the same things. Did you mention which amp you are using for your set up (E5?), why you chose that particular amp for the 3gs, and is there RF interference? Thanks a lot. Cheers

I got the E5 shortly after my TF10 ($130 on ebay, obviously flipped from the great amazon sale) just for the sake of trying an amp haha. I use it now mainly with my nano because even attached together they're still really portable, and I appreciate the subtle bass boost it gives (makes the sound appreciably fuller vs HP out). It just wasn't such a night/day difference for me on my iphone that I wanted to bother with it most of the time ---> (looking back at my first post last week, I've already changed how I listen to my devices hehe)

I'm probably upgrading to the Fiio E7 this May... or depending on how the reviews of those are & how my budget stands by then, perhaps a higher end DAC+amp combo. If it provides a much noticeable increase in SQ to be worth the sacrifices of portability, I may use it more often with the setup I diagrammed on 1st page.

Thanks and I am in the exact same boat. My biggest concern at the moment is not so much receiving calls when in commute, but spending big money on an amp that will be very bothersome with rf intereference and would drive me crazy. The switching headphone plug from amp to phone input for a call I can deal with, if I have to, I think. The RF intereference would drive me bonkers if I dropped 350 on an amp or amp/doc and it was not a "night and day" difference and was always freaking out from RF. What to do? Cheers

the original schematic I mentioned, which I probably won't use until I get a portable amp worth using on my iphone:

(sorry, didn't want to bother removing the E5 from my nano)

-while listening to music, it will go thru LOD/amp
-while receiving calls, it will go out HP out
-in both cases, audio goes straight to my IEMs (to talk, gotta use built-in mic)


since I do most of my listening while in front of my laptop, here's a more likely set-up for me (once I get a USB DAC):


but until then, if I really, really don't want to bother with just unplugging from my nano setup to my iphone for calls:


-in both of the latter two cases, I'd have to manually pause my music on the laptop/nano of course, otherwise two different audio feeds coming in can get really confusing



in all of the above scenarios:
-it takes a little bit of fiddling around with connecting the earphone male-end to the female-end of the splitter because it may not sound exactly right (i.e. volume may be off) if you just insert it fully (I have it pulled out just a hair). once I got it down, this was no longer a concern in my stationary setup, but it could possibly be an issue when moving and about (untested).

-no apparent degradation in SQ based on my quick listening (I'll update if this is no longer the case after more careful listening), but it probably won't affect most people either unless they currently use custom/aftermarket silver cables and such... in which case they'd need a DIY splitter with matching cable quality vs the $4 I spent on mine
