SOLD: PS Audio Digital Link III DAC, warranty till 2/25/12

I upgraded to a PS Audio Perfectwave DAC, and now want to sell my Digital Link III. I have the original box, and an extra IEC power cord that I will include (doesn't come with one).

This DAC has 16/48 USB, 24/96 optical, and 24/192 coax inputs. It offers both balanced XLR out and RCA outputs, with a discrete output section and no opamps. I've had no problems driving two amps at a time with it. At the July '09 Colorado meet I was using it via USB for at least half the meet, and everyone thought the USB input sounded great.

You can leave the DLIII on all the time and it senses when an input device is turned on so the DAC turns it self on. And it goes to sleep when your digital transports are all off for a few minutes. It also senses which input becomes active and selects that one. As a nice touch you can also manually shut it off, manually change the input source in case you have several on at the same time, and manually choose which up-sampling rate you want. You can find the product manual here: http://powerplayadmin.psaudio.com/~p...nual_DLIII.pdf

The DLIII sounds great and I could not tell the difference between this DAC and an $895 Stello DA100 Signature via optical when both DACs were in 96K up-sampling mode. In 192K up-sampling mode the DLIII becomes a little more spacious and crisper sounding, without losing any of it's warmth (Stello only does 96K or none). I found the DLIII was a better DAC than the Stello or Apogee mini-DAC for pairing with my Woo GES with Stax O2 Mk1, because the 192K mode was a better match for these darker sounding phones. The 192K mode also helped improve my K1000 on my ZDT, while 96K mode was a good match for my HD800.

I will make sure to let Alex Millet at PS Audio know who the buyer of the DAC is, so when the buyer registers it at the PSAudio.com website Alex can have someone update the site to reflect the proper warranty dates (so it doesn't show up as expired for you when you register it, which he sorted out when I bought my 6 month old PWD).

I am asking for $$ shipped to CONUS, and I eat paypal fees. It is in great cosmetic condition, and I have not noticed any marks on the unit although I could have missed 1 or 2 small ones.

Here is a photo of the DAC in my rig at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest last October, where it was right at home feeding my Eddie Current ZDT and Woo GES (using balanced input transformers for one of the amps), and with several high-end headphones.

Yes, sorry. I think it says something like 90-135v on the bottom of the DAC. You'd have to use a step-down transformer for 220-240v.

I'd like to get the asking price, for now. If you have slightly less cash and want to give me that plus a new toy in partial trade, I would consider that.

But I need the majority of the asking price as cash (you can use credit card via paypal).

Hi HPA

Are you quite sure that the Stello DA100 signature can't do 192K?

I'm 98% sure that the DA100 Signature is like the regular DA100 in that respect, with a switch to enable the 96K up-sampling or "bypass" it. But, yeah, I could be wrong.

I had the two Stello's and the DLIII in my home in March 2009 and Blutarsky and I compared the three DACs via Woo GES/Stax O2 mk1. I had Blutarsky buy me the DLIII in trade for my Stax cabled ESP-950 stats, but he actually gave me a choice of any of the three DACs. I decided that I preferred the DLIII because my Stax O2 sounded less dark and more spacious with the DLIII in 192K mode. I don't recall the Stello changing sound signature or opening up like the DLIII when up-sampling was engaged. With the DLIII in 96K mode and Stello with up-sampling mode on, they sounded alike.

The reason I ask is that my Stello DA100 has 192K and bypass, and I was under the impression that the Signature had a 3 way switch.

This is not a discussion forum Nice dac though. DA100 Sig does have 192. I prefer it in bypass.

Thanks for the information.

All I know is that in my comparison a year ago that both Stello's had up-sampling turned on to whatever is their highest, and I would have to ask Blutarsky what those rates are to get to 100% sure. I know the up-sampling was not on bypass, and the last time I read the label of the DA100 switch was in summer 2008 when Bluto and I did a comparison of DA100 bypassed or up-sampling with USB, and the bypass made Stello via USB sound worse. At that time I thought it said 96K. Bluto told me the only differences in the two Stello was the XLR out of the Signature, and so I didn't investigate when I was comparing and trying to decide which one I liked most.

It doesn't matter because I liked the DLIII more because it worked better with my GES/O2 in 192K mode, and sounded the same as the Stello's when I dropped the DLIII to 96K.

Here are the voltages the PS Audio DLIII works on, since someone asked in PM:

Step-down or step-up?
Down. You'd need to lower the voltage from your house to the required voltage. A step up transformer would ensure something goes bang.

Tempting this is.

I saw this FS thread and one of my eyebrows raised... My wallet saw it and three stab wounds later, I have decided to save up some money.

Great price for a DAC I would like to take down to tropical beach and prance along water front with in front of a setting sun.
