I have recently become a pretty big jazz fan. I don't know all of the subgenres but I mostly listen to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, and Art Blakely. I randomly stumbles upon this podcast called Jazz Insights on iTunes. If you are a jazz fan you owe it to yourself to check this out. It is all done by Dr. Gordon Vernick, I had never heard of him but he is the Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State University. But anyways check it out. I mainly consists of the history of jazz. There are also certain episodes about specific artists. Just thought I would share. Let me know what you think.

Here is a link.

Yeah I have two. I have went on a spending spree on jazz cd's. I have recently bought about 50. I just need some better cans for jazz. I feel that the MS1i's totally destroy the highs of jazz, they make them really harsh. But that is just me.

I have been doing some research as well. I have narrowed my next can purchase to K701, SR325i, HD600/650. I plan on buying used. I really would love to try these out, but there is no where around here to try them. I will have to find a meet to go to.

I found that when I first tried Grados the highs could be really annoying with many amps and sources in this way, even some which were quite expensive. Some serious damage to my wallet has rectified that however.

K701's are incredible for jazz, I like them a lot with a tube amp.

If you liked Davis and Coltrane, try Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus, Kenny Burrell and Grant Green. x2 onThelonious Monk and Bill Evans.

cheers!

Thanks for this, I have been looking around for a podcast like this. Perhaps it'll not only be beneficial for Jazz fans but for folks interested in getting into Jazz as well.

I have several Dave Brubeck CD's as well. How are the 701's with rock and alternative? They could very well be my next can.

Yes it could. I wish I would have found it when I was trying to find some good stuff to check out. It is also very informative. I love the way he incorporates the information with the songs themselves.

They're great with symphonic style progressive rock (Yes, Flower Kings, Moon Safari, some Pink Floyd, etc), they also shine with classical be it orchestras, chamber music, solo instruments, you say it. IMO they are not so great for plain rock and alternative; not bad, but not stellar.

cheers!
