Yes, of course. But if you're not using a larger hard-disk(like the 120GB or 240GB ones), you can just download the ready build version off rockbox.org and install it straight away with no errors.

So does rockbox suppor m4a now???

I'm contemplating a 240GB HD upgrade for my 80GB 5.5G since I'm running out of space quickly.

If ya mean, Apple Lossless(ALAC), it sure does!

For the complete list of supported codecs, check it out here!

Well there you go, I've learnt something new today.

Time for a 240GB drive then

This should be the one IIRC: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This should be the one IIRC: 1.8 240GB 240 GB TOSHIBA MK2431GAH HARD DRIVE IPOD HDD - eBay Other, Hard Drives, Drives Storage, Computers Networking. (end time 03-May-10 19:57:34 AEST)
You should try the 240GB hard-disk and battery upgrade kit from apricorn.com here! It retails for only $170 and according to feedback from some head-fiers, it works perfectly!

Hmm, what hard drive do they use?

$170 is damn tempting. Do they ship overseas? Sent them an email, so lets see.

Expansys has it for $230AUD. http://www.expansys.com.au/d.aspx?i=194761

So if you went out and installed the Apricorn 240 hd on an 80 gb 5 Gen Ipod you can put Rockbox on it?

Also, is it difficult to install vs just clicking and downloading the regular version of Rockbox?

I am thinking of getting the Apricorn to upgrade, but have Rockbox in place and I would rather be able to play my FLAC files than get the extra memory.  Thus I hope that this combination of Rockbox and Apricorn will work and that it is easy to install/support.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Yes, if you installed a 240GB hard-disk in ya 5/5.5G iPod, you can certainly Rockbox it! The steps to getting it done are pretty much documented in this thread and i guess it is for you to decide if it is "difficult to install" since we all at differing levels of technical/computer competency.

I guess if you have Rockbox installed already, and you don't see yourself needing all the extra space that the 240GB hard-disk provides, you don't have to upgrade now. The only down-side is i think no one is sure when the $170 promo on Apricorn will expire so when you do decide to upgrade, you might have to pay more for a 240GB hard-disk. The next cheapest one i've seen being sold is around $240.
