Modding the Superlux hd681 - Page 2

Can someone recap the mods on the HD-681 here in order of ones that make the most impact to the least?

The Rock Grotto thread goes on for AGES! Those guys are insane (in a good way).

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I'm not sure about the order, but some of the recommended mods were:

- filter mod to tame the highs

- swapping the stock pads with AKG 240 velour pads

- swapping the stock cable with a better one

- some mods to the enclosure (something to do with a coin?)

And it was suggested that these cans require a proper burn-in to sound good.

I'll be getting mine next week. I might even write something about these cans if they are as good as praise in the Rock Grotto thread suggests.

the coin mod is actually to reduce resonance in the enclosure- sounds silly but it works

I was just reading the same thing today.  But I think someone made an actual metal caps.

There are quite of lot of other mods you can do on the Superlux:

I was impressed with the 681 from the little while I heard it. The SQ was higher than I expected.  I think its warm punchy bass made it so much fun and easy to listen.

nice! - where did you get the red pads?

I got them from a German seller on ebay, but it was a nightmare to get them, as he did not wanted to sell outside germany and I had to get help from a fellow german head-fier, but they got here at last, but not really anything to write home about, I got a pair with the metal caps on also, but I got no pictures of them..
