Koss Pathfinder (binaural??) thoughts?

Does anyone have any experience with these? I am curious as to whether the 'binaural' aspect of them acts as a kind of built-in crossfeed.

I am pretty sure that 'binaural' means stereo, a.k.a. left and right channels.

It just means two ears. Stereo and binaural are different especially in recording devices and mastering where each ear will hear specific instruments whereas Stereo is just the arranging of everything between two ears. I've not really heard binaural attached to headphones before, or if I had, I'd probably just released it to... the silly marketing department of a company like Koss.

Actually, binaural recording is a form of stereo recording technique as well, for headphone playback only to be more specific (ER4B is the only headphone I know to be specifically tuned for binaural recording playback, but any stereo headphone is fine as well). After all, it is recorded in two channels as well. There are post recording processing (mostly software simulator) that can in some degree turns stereo to binaural, but true binaural recording is always done by a dummy head for better HRTF.

Anyway, it isn't Koss's fault on the 'binaural' term, but Buy.com's lame way of referring all stereo headphone to be, er, 'stereo'. If you haven't noticed it before, Koss's full brand name is 'Koss Stereophone'. I am sure they won't turn into 'Koss Binauralphone' anytime soon

Haha. I have a pair of concert recording binarual mics which fit not into a dummy head, well... they fit into my ears and look just like earphones. That and my mic amp, a portable hi pass filter and an MD helped me grab some great recordings.

Indeed, binaural is stereo, but it relies on two separate images which can be mixed down any way where stereo can be many many sources mixed for two ears. Strange binaural recordings are quite fun to listen to.

Yeah, on Koss' website they don't use the term 'binaural' anywhere. It's just buy.com being weird.

Aaah it all makes sense now. Too bad, it was an interesting idea I thought.

I have binaural mics and recordings and they are fun to play with.
