I have read this too, but I also read it supplies too much power (current?) to the headphones which can damage them. Something along those lines anyway. I wouldn't recommend taking that path.

Just make sure you place the jumpers on the -10dB or -20dB switches on the benchmark to avoid overpowering them. I've been using them in this way for a while now. No damage so far

Ok I think I am going to go the route of getting a benchmark 1 and a woo audio 6 headphone amp. I am going to use it only to listen to songs on my computer. So my question is, which benchmark do I need? can I hook the regular Dac1 up to my computer or do I need the Dac1 USB in order to hook up to my computer?

You can use the regular, as it has Optical in and Coaxial in, provided your computer has those outputs. BTW, what makes you want the DAC1? Many prefer the Lavry DA10 and DA11 to the DAC1. There are a few reviews comparing the two, but by memory, the Lavry was overall just better, more smooth sounding too.

So then whats the big deal about having a USB port - why does that one cost a a few hundred more? I'm not too familar with this stuff as you can tell.

Well then I'll have to look into the lavry more. Anyone on here familiar enough with the two to compare them.
