Meh, Sten's an untalkative ******. Plus I played a warrior so he was a worthless party member.

There is at least one girl gamer I know that got him to talk .

I was a mage so I wanted a second warrior to Alistair. I got that dwarf ohgren but he wasn´t that fun to talk with either

Shale is really useful eg. maxed out stone heart abilities buff up your party but the noises from when she fights irritate my ears.
Would any of this change if I got a gaming soundcard and connected the optical to my DACmagic?? Otherwise I'm not really sure what they're for..

Getting back to the original topic have you pulled off the ear pads to check for hairs in the driver? Used to get low bass distortion on my HD600s because of that.

Also yeah, DA:O is awesome :P

How do I remove the earpads without messing them up?

In my own experience hair on the driver didn't cause distortion that he's hearing but only a distinct rattling (which sounds like... well, there's a hair vibrating on the driver, or that there's something loose in the headphone) that wouldn't be the type of bother he's talking about.

That's just me though, you mighta had a different situation with the hair putting actual pressure on the driver instead of just sitting on it.

Anyway, uh... maybe its just clipping (by putting the volume past 100%)? Is there any programs that would affect the volume output at all on your computer?

No volume altering software I'm aware of.
I was using optical out when I first posted this. My cables went missing after a UK meet..I must have dropped it while packing up..but now I'm using USB.
I'll give it another try tomorrow, and compare them to the AD2000s I'm getting.
