Just recabled my Grado's, but...

Hey everybody, I just recabled a set of Grado SR80i's today, and had one quick question: Is there any way to fix a significant volume difference between the two cups? My left speaker is much louder than the right (and I've tried different CD's on different sources - no luck). If I crank up the volume, the sound quality of the left (quieter) speaker still sound good, it's just softer than the right.

By the way, I used Mogami mini star quad w/ a Neutrik 3.5mm plug. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

It might be a cold solder joint on the less loud side of the earcup, increasing resistance on that channel, just a quick guess so don't shoot me if I'm way off .

Thanks, I might try to reheat the solder up a bit and see if that helps.

Alright, I figured it out. The culprit was the barrel of the Neutrik plug, which had come into contact with the one of the prongs. Just passin that information along in case somebody in the future runs into a similar problem.

That's why they come with a plastic sleeve that goes inside the barrel.

Hey, I'm planning to do the same to a set of SR-60is. What particular method did you use to open the earcups? I've read somewhere recently that the 'i' models have the earcups glued with some kind of epoxy that makes them very difficult to pry open.

cheers!

hair dryer works just leave it for a few mins and it will come right off place the dryer a inch or so from the cups
