Panasonic CZs (HJE900) Appreciation Thread and Pending Review - Page 9

Just got these this morn and am enjoying them straight off, they definitely give me the bass and muscle that I felt was missing from my RE0's but with just as much detail.

They strike me as a real no nonsense earphone, tho I can see how some might find them overly bright or harsh ( whether that will change with burn in I dont know) but to me they seem to just get on and do with job with razor sharp clarity and precision- wonderful :)

Later edit: To my ears these are soooo much more satisfying than RE0,  much more visceral impact to the music.

Later: Both filters fell out within 24 hours!

Just feeling a sudden irrational urge to to say something nice about my CZ's as I think they've been feeling a bit neglected since I got my DDM's. So anyway, what bloody great phones these are, bloomin brilliant, splendid, fabulous, marvelous, really really good in fact. Ok I feel better now.

Oooo! CZ's and DDM's are on my short list. How do they compare?

Share some love. Why did you enjoy the HJE900s(also known as CZs for their cubic ziconium housing)?

Several reasons for me.

Firstly, they are so unique. How many IEMs do you know that are made out of cubic zirconium, a material approaching the strength of diamonds?

Following from that, these are uber durable. Except for the unfortunate falling out of the nozzle filters, these things feel like they could last forever, particularly because of the housing and user replaceable cables.

They look awesome. For me, they present the perfect balance of outward attractiveness and an understated look. The dark silvver cable connectors in particular look classy without being showy(ahem MTPG). The cubic Zirconium itself has to be seen under different lighting conditions to be appreciated. Sometimes the look metalic. Sometimes they look more jewel like. Sometimes they look a dark sea green, others a strong blue. In the sunlight, they almost seem to glow, as they seem to have a way of holding the light within them. Sounds weird, I know. Yet they do all this without being gaudy.

But more than all is the sound. I simply haven't been this satisfied, and I do not feel compelled to upgrade phones at all. Actually, I want to upgrade my source, because these guys seem to be revelaling just how inadequate my sources are, despite their great efficiency.

They are that rare type of headphone that just sounds good with any genre, at least to me. They really surprised me when I first heard them, because I never realized higher drums could hit so hard, like it actually had some sort of body to it. It has a bit of that treble smack, upper mid kick, and bass tackle. The bass is nicely textured and there is certainly plenty of it, without being excessive imo. The mids are what I call crisp. Soundstage is realistic, and can be both wide and intimate, depending on the track.

In summary, the CZs may not be the best at any one particular area, but they sure as heck are one of the best of being at least decent at pretty much everything I can think of. I don't feel like I've made any real compromises with my purchase of these, and that's why I love them. ^_^

Very different sound signatures. Both have lots of bass. DDM's strike me as amazingly organic sounding, kinda warm but not really, very smooth, textured , layered, natural way with detail, everything seems perfectly integrated, very 3D.

CZ's much cooler sounding, energetic and clean treble ( fantastic with acoustic guitars) punchy but less textured and organic bass than DDM , less midrange detail too ,but really good allrounder if you like a very crisp and clean ( some say harsh ) sound.

DDM wins by quite a margin for me tho...but strangely I enjoy them equally.

Balls, sound is only coming out of one ear now after only one month ownership. Hmmm.

Just return them to Monster, oh wait...  J/k,

Was actually thinking of trying these out w/ my Clip+ since my Monster MD's don't like the Clip very much...

:)) I think I can just send them back to Amazon and get a refund, good excuse to try something else out. Love the Panasonics but dont have any particular attachment to their sound.

Hmm I seem to have turned into quite an earphone tart in a very short space of time since frequenting headfi.

You sure its covered under Amazon return policy??  I checked Amazon before and it was sold under J&R, not fulfilled by Amazon.

Just looked at my amazon page and it says I can still return them as faulty and get a refund under their 30 day return.

Let me know how it goes, just read this on Amazon/J&R....

J&R offers an exclusive 30-day exchange/refund policy on mail order and web purchases. Please note: defective computer software may be exchanged for same title only. For health reasons, in-ear headphones and some personal care items that have been opened may only be exchanged if defective and for the same item

Did you get it directly from Amazon?

Yeah got them directly from Amazon, gonna send them back today asking for a refund. I'll be happy enough if they will exchange them for something else tho. Have to say I've lost a bit of faith in the panasonics. The mesh thingies falling out I can put down as a quirk and live with as its no big deal but Ive never had a cable go after such a short time.

Will keep you posted.
