I currently don't use any type of wire management. Sometimes I'll use velcro straps or those twisty things, but I usually end up tossing those aside after a while.

The reason being is that I usually get too lazy to wind up and strap the wires back together. This is especially true if I use that particular item everyday. I also tend to not use them because it doesn't seem that much better to me than just looping them in a small pile.

I don't use any system to manage wires, regardless of how many there are. My only real concern is if I trip over them or not. So as long as they are tucked around/under something, I honestly don't care if they get tangled or not. Kinda like Christmas lights in a box. I just throw them in there and fix it when I need to. Takes a few minutes I would waste on something else anyways.

I agree! As a product designer aesthetics is defiantly an important part of the problem.

I'm another one who just shoves the cable against the wall

I do not use one, but would not mind having one. My cables are a mess. So far I've been too lazy to research into this area.

Anyone else have some input?

I try my best to arrange my components in such a way to minimize cables weaving back and forth. For the clumps that needs a bit of management, I use velcro ties. I don't see a need for anything fancier than that.

I use velcro if necessary, and custom cables for pretty much everything. Usually you need to use cable management if:
1) Cables are too long
2) Too many cables in a particular area

Issues that arise from 1:
a) Dangling cables
b) "noise antennae"
c) hazards (trips and falls)
d) looks messy

By making my own cables, cutting and stripping whenever necessary, I don't have any of the issues listed above, but I still get a lot of cables that have to get organized behind my electronics gear. Using velcro and some product I got at staples, it has double sided tape on the back and on the front a reusable holder that will hold an entire bundle of cables so I can guide the cables behind my furniture and the corners of the room.

If I were you I would focus on educating folks on cable management rather than developing a new product since a lot of products are already available in the market from organizing to preventing trips and falls. The perfect cable management would be wireless power transmission now that should be a good topic for a masters program.

Even with the few cable I use combined, audio gear and PC set up with all in one printer a system would be welcome. To tie few cables together those iron cord wires in white plastic which you usually get with sandwich bags (Netherlands) are quite handy. Longer ones come with garbage bags.

Otherwise I just push cables back or out of sight or just give them a practical place. The problem is the cables have to be both in reach and invisible. I can live with my messy cable storage system though.

I add and remove things so frequently from my setup that I see no point in using cable ties or any of that crap. The only thing I hate is that the cables that dangle near the power supplies pick up the hum...extremely annoying.

Velcro is good... easily reusable...

I think what you are a victim here is "Not cheap enough to do with, easy enough to do without." For many people its out of sight, out of mine and couldn't care less about a cable management system... plus the second you have to add one ore remove one you wish you had never did it in the first place.

The only cable management system is 3 pieces of ducktap, to hold my computer mouse cable to the wall, with just enough slack not prevent me from owning baddies online. There are many companies offering products online to compete with my 3 pieces of ducktape, however at 3 cents, and complete customization it is very hard to even consider 20$ doohickies that are supposed to do the same thing... and fail.
