Just got my RS1i - and it arrived wounded

Tell me these were "new" and I´ll never buy Grado. (Probably never will anyway...)

Just call Grado, tell them the issue as best you can, and everything should be fine.

I don't think its a big deal, but they're brand new. No reason to not send them back.

if they are new, yes. if they are used, maybe.. but i am also very ocd about my stuff, but then again i have to say grado's quality control is not very good, there are imperfection everywhere on the earcups (extra glue, etc etc)

They're off the shelf, new RS1i. I just opened the box 3 minutes ago.

I´m really surprised of such a bad finish on cans of that price... Unacceptable, return them.

I don´t like the finish of Grado´s in the first place though. Very rough looking.

That's completely unacceptable and will hurt your resale value. I would return them to your vendor for an exchange immediately.

As somebody who has OCD, I have a similar condition RS1i (near-new) and I'm honestly not bothered by it, mainly due to the fact that if I did own a perfect RS1i, I would constantly be worrying about it being damaged or looking for minor cosmetic flaws.

In my case, in the inner part in one of the cups, it seems as though the black paint for the grill overflowed onto the cup by a few drops. As a result it gives off this weird optical illusion that a termite bored holes in the cup.

If you pay that much for a grado headphone then you damned well better expect absolute satisfaction with no flaw in the wood. There is clearly a knot in that piece and its unsightly. Send them back and and get a better pair :P

Haha.. this is very true..
for the stuff that i got new.. i would treat them like gem..
for the stuff that i got 2nd hand, or slightly wounded at a discount, i would relax the attention given
there is a little chip on my k701 when i got it 2nd hand.
now you can see me do lots of weird stuff on my k701

If you made a point and noticed a flaw, this is unacceptable for a brand new item, I would exchange it.
