Why are the Beyer DT990 so much cheaper than the DT880? - Page 2

the dt770 = closed
the dt880 = semi-open
the dt990 = open

Oh whinge some more! I imported mine with kiwi dollars and at a worse exchange rate.......
Also tbh, it's the dt990 that is on special, not cuz the DT880 is overpriced.

Generally, head-fi'ers tend to prefer the 880's because they're the most neutral and fastest although they're also on the bright side. The 990's are much warmer in comparison with weightier bass, although unlike the 880's I haven't heard them so that's just FWIR. (The 770's fyi are really bright and have overbearing bass - a heavy v-shape FR).
This does not apply to the dt880 600 ohm

LOL! I am not whining, I would just rather wait until it came down in price. By all means, I would buy it at $300 now, but I have no idea if I am going to love it or not, so I would rather not gamble with my money. I also have other priorities set and at the current price of the DT880, I cannot buy all things at once. If it were around the same price as the DT990 600ohm, I would get it right now, as I could afford the other things at the same time as well.

I own the DT990 Pro (250), and I think I'm going to order the DT880 600ohms in a few minutes... unless common sense kicks in.

I just want more mids... The DT990 Pro has really sucks the life out of them; and while it's a very fun phone, vocals sound like they were recorded 10 feet behind the instruments sometimes. I might still keep it for gaming (which is does awesomely, I think).

Meh stuff it, after I buy my new graphics card, sell my other one, I think I may have to order some DT880 600ohm Getting bit late now, I wanted them in time for the meet on the 20th. Why must PayPal and the banks take so long to transfer money! (Rhetorical question). Been a week and one transfer still hasn't even cleared! By the time I get the money for them, it will be the 20th

You can get the Dt880/600 with an amp at 359USD.

I'm no expert, still new to this, but the amp does a better job driving the 600ohms phones than my D4.

Ships from Singapore so you have to factor that in too.

I bought this 3 weeks ago, the offer should still available.

Beyer DT880, 600ohm/250ohm, Edge Amplifier Special...

Wow $70 more for the 600ohm. I might just buy for $299 form somewhere, I already have 3 amps Anyway that is from 2008 isn't it?

People seem to avoid low impedance can? Is it Beyer only or in general high impedance phones is better? How about AT and Denon? They are all low impedance phones... Even the high end ones...

With beyer's, the higher the ohm, the better it sounds. I do not fully understand it but maybe because they require more power, more power is going to get through to each frequency, thus sounding better.

I didnt have a mains powered amp at the time so the bundle made sense to me, I've seen someone offload the amp here for 100usd if that helps :P
post #27 of 39
How long ago did you buy them?
I got them 3 weeks to a month back cant remember the exact date.

I tried asking for a discount if I didnt take the amp, turns out the phones cost more alone than in a bundle lol.

I think they are just trying to either get the some publicity for the crossroads brand or just clearing stock.

Linkie to the sale of the amp.

no idea whether there is still demand though.

Thanks for the link. A few people will snatch up this deal I reckon.

You're welcome.

I'm really enjoying the Dt880/600s there is a little sibilance, but nothing i cant deal with, doesn't help that my hearing is pretty sharp

I must say a mains powered amp is an upgrade that is really worthwhile for the 600ohms, a portable amp no matter how well received/reviewed doesnt have the juice to power these to potential.
