charge new ipod with old dock

I have an ipod speaker dock that I really like, but it won't charge my ipod touch. I would like to try to modify it so it can charge and I found this site that talks a little bit about the pinouts and what to connect to what in order to charge Apple iPod and iPhone (2g, 3g) Dock Interfaces pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru

So, I need to put a 7805 regulator between the 9v wire coming off the board and connect it to pins 23 and 15 on the ipod dock. Should I use a heatsink also?
Then I need to tie pins 25 and 27 together with a 10k ohm resistor.

Does the above sound correct? Also, the audio part does work on the dock, so does that mean it already has what is listed in the last paragraph on the above site or will I have to add that also if I modify the charging?

I have seen those little accessories you can get to make an old dock charge, but the ipod drawer on my dock automatically retracts when there is no ipod present so this accessory would just get in the way.
Thanks in advance for the help!
