Is it ok to listen to headphones with the cable still coiled up?

I don't think I'll need to uncoil my D5000 or my HD555s cables since they're so long...but at the same time, I don't want them coiled up if its bad for them in the long run.

Think its ok to leave cables coiled up?

The cable should be ok, but the sound will suffer.

How will the sound suffer? Can you really hear it?

It's not April Fool's Day yet.

Perfectly fine . . .
Do not worry about hurting the headphones/cable, and it should make no audible difference either.

Clearly your headphones are going to explode from leaving the cable coiled! I estimate the blast radius to be quite around 1 metre which is serious. You could lose an arm!

LOL

thanks for the feedback guys. I thought it was probably a stupid question but these are expensive cans so I figured it was better to be sure.

Well I'm 100% certain someone will tell you it will alter the sound. This is the world of consumer audio and people buy even more absurd things like acoustic rocks....

LOL. I am sure even if there is any effect, you won hear it.

All my long headphone cords are coiled in a circle...I much prefer the circular sound signature to the straight!

I agree, a circular sound signature is far more round, which is good for my tastes. I only use the coiled cable that came with my K271 because of this.

On the other hand, if you prefer a flat response . . .

just something intersting to share.
when you are listening to radio with the cables coiled up, it means that the cables are touching each other, which will cause intererence for radio.

but yeah, other than that scenario, should be perfectly fine.
my k701's cables are always coiled up while listening

Yeah electrons don't mind turning corners or circuit boards would have some serious problems.

wow! just hold on tight when you get up, all the electrons spinning in your coiled cable might make you dizzy
