Oh average_joe if you want to update the chart I've now owned the EQ7 and SM3 as well and fully endorse the SM3 as top-top

Now that is the best post I have read today, if not over the past month!  Bravo!

- Yes. Or at least the chart needs to be clearly organised in ranking order with the SM3 at the top and a big gold star next to it.

- ER4P, ER4S, CK10, Ortofon E-Q7.  Will be receiving the Radius DDMs tomorrow so you can throw that in the list too, albeit I haven't heard them and they may blow the SM3 out the water (I'm not a betting man, but a fiver says they won't).

- Yes, everytime I put the SM3 around my ears I  hear the tears of angels and multicoloured butterfly wings flapping in exotic lands. While cool streams lap at my feet and dusky maidens perform unspeakable acts upon my reproductive organs. In comparison, other iems sound like a rabid dog is urinating down my canals while the ghost of George Best is belching putrid sweet nothings in my face and rubbing sandpaper on the back of my neck.

hahahah... you sir, are quite entertaining.  If you condense your words I think you could be quite the poet.

Well I've had the SM3s for nearly two weeks now, and think I've adjusted to the sound. Still not at a point where I can relax and just enjoy music, still critically listening for the details

But when I A/b'd with my W3s, with music from Florence + the machine, the music sounded more natural, her breathing sounds and airiness of her voice and soundstage are breath taking (pun intended) compared with W3s, which seem a makes the vocals seem a little pushed and sounstage sounds a bit flat

I haven't had a chance to a/b with the IE8s or TF10s, as I'm just using the SM3s, but Isolation wise, its pretty good, better than the IE8's, TF10 has better isolation, but terrible microphonics, the W3 isolates a bit better than the SM3s, but thats maybe cos I'm using a modified sony hybrid tip with comply core

I'm using the stock double flange tip with the SM3 out of my iphone 3g unamped

However depending on the song, the IE8's sound more enjoyable with its bass impact with house/trance music. For some reason I don't enjoy my house/trance music with the SM3's, however tech-house its pretty good.

Must be the mix of house with vocals which don't sound as enjoyable, as I'm probaly used to the V frequency and club sound which the SM3 doesn't offer for that genre

I thought this might be the appropriate thread to ask. Is there any news from the x-jays? When I use google, only stuff from february comes up...

I am eager to see the x-JAYS as well. I remember somebody saying the 'beast' will be released around October.

What a pity, I wanted something new to listen over the summer. Maybe I go with the new beyerdynamic t50p...

^^^  Yeah, waiting on the X Jays is the main reason I haven't plopped down the cash for the Shure SE535.  I'm in a IEM-buying holding pattern until I at least read some early reviews of the X's...

What I have read about the Shure is that they are pretty similar to the old ones. They were first pretty interestig, but than again nothing new...

I do wonder when that will come out. Hopefully soon but I somewhat lost interest in that a while ago and have gotten reshelled customs which hopefully come next week or the next and I think I have enough universals in my arsenal.

Technically speaking I think the SM3 run circles around the IE8 and is also better than Monster Turbine Pro Copper/Gold. Enjoyment wise I think they are also ahead of those two but the Copper is closer than the IE8 in this area.

Ranked:

SM3

MTPC

MTPG/IE8

Well this ranking sounds interesting. This SM3 seems to be a fine IEM. I thought that it is similar or the same as the Westone W3. How similar are those two?

The SM3 thread had about 2-3 pages on that.

Thats was me I think - Jays UK told me they were looking at an October release for about £400 (ouch).  Even so, at that price they'll still be cheaper than the (imo overpriced) SE535s....

I hope there won't be any delay for the release. I am pretty sure HandHeldAudio will have some demo units once they are released, so you know your mission Bennyboy :)

I think SM3 and W3 are totally different in terms of sound signature. I haven't try W3, but from what I read, they have a U-curved frequency response. SM3 should be more balanced sounding in comparison, with a precise and tight bass, forward but non-fatigue midrange, and laid-black treble. In my opinion they share a similarity, which is very tip-dependent.
