Hopefully. IMO it might be a while... but seeing as how it's getting a lot of positive recommendation on it's sound quality and the UI/low battery life are the only main gripes it's quite possible.

I haven't really thought of Rockbox but I would love it.

My daughter has the CLIP. I think it sounds very 'thin' tbh and i did'nt like it.

The 3G is supposed to be good, and one can use 'simplifymusic'? app to stream from you home computer, which is an excellent idea.

I do it all the time with my 16gb 3gs.
