I had an Archos 504. Battery got hot while charging and expanded, pressing on the HDD. i walked into my office to see the 504 spinning on my desk. Archos support could care less.

spinning? Like, exorcist style? Not sure what you mean by that, lol. What could cause it to spin :P
anyway, archos SUPPORT is pretty decent, I had to call them every day asking for help when I had mine then mine decided to brick for no reason. ARCHOS RETURNS is dreadful.

I've never heard of anything like that before. HDD can get warm, but catching fire? That's mad faulty, I hope that your unit gets replaced, no questions asked and upgraded to the flame retardant model.
