I don't smoke, so why do my ears smell like an ashtray?

****ing ***hole eBay sellers, that's why! I keep forgetting that just because a product is new and sealed in a box, doesn't mean the seller still can't **** with it in some way. Just opening the UPS bag filled the whole bleeding room with that stench! The headphones sound just as they should, although they're not the right ones, defeating the point of the purchase in the first place. I wanted a matching set, replacing my DT440 silver with the 2007 chrome edition, to go with my DT660s and DT860s, both of which are 2007 chrome...

I don't know why I'm even posting this.

Time for some harsh negative feedback! Sorry that had to happen to you though; the smell of that junk is never pleasant.

haha...I had an experience like this one time. The headphones smelled like cigarettes. For at least 2-3 weeks, people kept asking me if I started smoking, the smell was so bad.

Cigarettes do smell, and the seller is obviously an a**hole. But come on, if they smell like a good cigar ash in the tray, that would make my week/month. I need to smoke up my ear cups!

Seriously, I feel for you. I never get too close to people who don't like smoke if I can help it.

Cheers,
Zach

Never happened to me but I'd hate it, the smell alone gives me a headache. There are odor removers you can use if you're able to soak the ear pads, this will leave them smelling like lemons but that ain't too bad.

There aren't that many who are this considerate in the city over here

That sounds like a really bad experience..

I bought some cheap headphones and the seller said they didn't smoke. .. . . yeah right. In the bin they went.

If it was weed, you'd attract even more attention. Guess it could be worse, they could have been the seller's bathroom pair.

Do some serious ozone treatments and it might remove the odor.

Yeah, I'd definitely call for some negative feedback.

As a smoker, I love smoking, but the closest I come to doing it near any of my headphones is cooking naked outside in the backyard during the summer with my MX560s in! It's never been the same since they built those house in the field behind that overlooks my backyard.

Anyhow, if it's serious enough for you to notice and get enraged about it right out of the shipping box and he lied about it, then screw that guy, I'd throw up in a USPS box and mail that back to him. This aggresiveness may be coming from the alcohol consumed this evening or from the fact that I hate getting smelly products from eBay.

Although, this reminds me of an incident where a certain stinky gentleman returned a television to my store and the idiot who checked it didn't realize the box was invested with cockroaches... So it stews in the back for a bit and then POW, freakin' cockroach storm and they're all calling home to a particular 50" LED TV that was garbage to us at that point.

Maybe you could threaten to give negative feedback unless he takes the cans back? Just a thought...

Snake has a point.

If he said they weren't from a smoking environment and clearly smell of cigarettes, then I'd be tempted to send them back for a refund.

You could also send them back and ask for a refund if the seller said that they were the chrome edition.

I once bought some phones off ebay and they smelled like a mixture of granny perfume and cat pee. Me girlfriend wouldn't come near me after I wore them for any amount of time. They were awful.

Send those phones back and demand a refund. I'm a smoker (hopefully for not much longer because it's bad for me, but I do enjoy it) but I do not smoke in my home nor anywhere near my audio gear. I remember in my old place when I used to smoke and then I stopped smoking inside, all my clothes reaked so horribly I had to dump many of them. It is downright rude for someone to sell you anything in that condition unless they notify you of it first. If he doesn't offer to give you a refund AND pay for return shipping, tell him you will not only leave negative feedback clearly visible for everyone to see that he sells equipment reaking of smoke, but you will file a claim with PayPal as well.

I hate people like that. Nothing is worse or an act more selfish than an inconsiderate smoker.

If the item was not as described (as they apparently are), then open a dispute and ask to return them for a refund.

I do enjoy cigars and the occasional tobacco product, but never around my gear or even inside, for that matter. With an exception for dive bars, of course. In that case, the atmosphere would be ruined without it.
