Sony NWZ-S636F - help requested

Hi everyone.

I just acquired this dap and after extensive searching (or so I think), I can't find answers to two problems I'm encountering.

First, this unit isn't reading my id3 tags (mp3 files). My Cowon D2 and my older Samsung unit have no problems with the same files.

Second, how do you get cover art working on this unit?

Thanks very much for any replies.

i dont have the sony s639 but i can make a pretty good guess on what the issue is. i have the sony a818 and it didn't accept my tags until i changed them from 2.4 to 2.3. cover art is the same issue but i think each player has a max size they can be or the dap just doesnt show it. i dont get the cover art to show up every time but as long as the tags are fine i have no issues.

My mp3 files are tagged with id3v1.

If anyone who actually owns one of these NWZ's and has their mp3 tags being read could advise me I'd be grateful.

Embedding cover art problem has been solved.

Thanks.

I've tried id3v2.3, and still the player won't read them.

The mp3's that come loaded with the player all have their tags read properly, but I noticed they all have very peculiar Metadata that I've never seen before - V-CHIP. The value for the data is unreadable (it shows up as just a group of blocks).

I've searched for any information about V-CHIP and have found nothing.

I'm assuming this data is somehow related to the tagging.

Again, if anyone who owns one of these series of Walkmans can provide any info, it would be appreciated.

Is it possible that V-CHIP is some sort of DRM?

Not that knowing whether it is or not would be any help.

It is not associated with DRM, I checked in WMP11.

I use mp3tag v2.45a and it works fine on my S638, except the releasing date.
However, I use WMP most of the time and it seldom has any problem.

Well the mp3's that come pre-loaded on my 636 have their files tagged with both id3v2 & id3v1, and all of the tag fields show up just fine on the player.

So at this point I'm completely lost as to how to get the tags working on this unit. I've even tried tagging a file with no previous tags with just id3v2.3 tags and that didn't work either, so I've pretty much given up on it.

Thanks.
