Japanese Bonus Tracks?

It's just a question that's been bugging my mind. Why do japanese editions of CDs often include bonus tracks?
Maybe because they are often much more expensive compare to other country's edition.

expensive here because they are sold as an import

i'm curious as to the comparison to the prices of the domestic release here vs the japanese release over there

but yeah it pisses me off a bit... though at the same time i hate bonus tracks because 99% of the time they are tacked on after the closing track of the album i'd rather it be a bonus disc with the extra tracks of if possible added to the middle of the album in a way that doesn't break the flow of the album (see the combat records version of Venom - Black Metal)

as far as price goes, i just read a rather lengthy at kotaku about japan and one of the things he brought up was how expensive cd's are. He said to buy a new cd usually is around 40 dollars

but OP, good question, i have also always wondered why they get bonus tracks that we dont.

I've always wonder why this was the case too. I also didn't realise cds were so expensive in Japan. Cds here are about 25USD. Not that bad, luckily.

But you can also rent CD's here so you can just rip them.

CD's here are 15 or less. 20+ for imports.

Bonus tracks are most often included as a promotional device, either as an incentive to customers to purchase albums they might otherwise not, or to repurchase albums they already own.

Japan as a nation is the one of largest music markets in the world. However, music is more expensive there than elsewhere, so labels tend to favour adding a few extras in an attempt be competitive with imports.

Fake Japan cds with included bonus tracks are being flooded at the moment, particulary from Russian sources.
