Recommend Some Yo Yo Ma - Page 2

I really like Yo-Yo Ma's recording of the Shostakovich Cello Concerto with Ormandy, the Dvorak Concerto with Masur, and the Bach Cello Suites (his 2nd recording, not the one from the 80's) Apart from that I'm not really familiar with his playing.

you could try:
Brahms - Double Concerto, & Beethoven Triple Concerto (w/Rostropovich)
Beethoven - Cello Sonatas (Fournier/Kempff)
the Bach Cello Suites with: Schiff, Bylsma, Casals
Britten - Cello Suites (Paul Watkins)
Barber - Cello Concerto (Isserlis)
Kodaly - Sonata for solo cello

If you like chamber music:

Mozart - Clarinet Quntet
Schubert - String Quintet D. 956
Beethoven - Piano Trio Op.7 No.1 "Ghost", String Quartet Op.74 "Harp"
Philip Glass - String Quartet No.2
Vaughan Williams - Phantasy Quintet
Shostakovich - String Quartet No.1
Bach - Sonatas for Violin and Continuo

Wow! You guys have been so helpful. Sorry if I don't respond for a while as I am going to be busy, but happy. Thanks. I see Mark O'Connor plays on the Appalachia album. He is my wife's sister's husbands cousin. I know he has won alot of awards in his career. Will have to look that one up.

Emerson Quartet has nice recordings of Schubert, Beethoven (Razumovsky quartet!) and Haydn..Also early Shostakovich quartets (and no.8..)

Daniel Müller-Schott and Robert Kulek made a cd (cello/piano) which is very good (Debussy/Poulenc/Franck/Ravel) and the lovely Emmanuelle Bertrand made a great cd with Amoyel, also cello/piano (Alkan/Liszt)..

You can also check out the piano/cello works from Brahms, I like Klein/Manz myself, but there are plenty of good renditions..
