Is climate change now a taboo subject in the Members' Lounge?

We have had a lot of intelligent discussions here about climate change, and while there are certainly differing opinions, people have generally kept it civil and I don't believe any of the threads I participated in were locked due to people getting too, um, excited. However, I noticed that the thread discussing Al Gore's recent Op/Ed column in the NY Times was quickly closed before any real discussion could take place.

What's going on, mods? Are we now to stay away from discussing anything remotely controversial?

I for one, wouldn't mind a climate change debate thread - certainly would make for interesting reading. But I think, the mods have probably started taking to closing climate change threads to nip things in the bud - the topic can become political very quickly as I have seen on other forums.

Well it was prolly partially due to the fact that Al Gore is a political figure, and just the mention of him gets my political juices flowing.
Honestly, the words "Climate Change" makes me think of Gore and hence gets my political juices flowing also. No talking about the weather on Head-Fi !!!!
This will prolly be closed also,...so with that....No further comment.

You started the thread with a nono, asking something that will make your own thread be closed. Questioning mods in public, another nono...PM them instead.

If it can stay a scientifc topic, that's one thing, but it always seems some can't resist turning it into something else. I think this thread made it to post #4 before heading that way.

I would love a climate change debate thread - but Al Gore's article was so full of politics, that it made a VERY poor base for discussing global warming.
