almost true...but i took 5wk off from work with the birth of our second child this past January. in that time i built a y-2, Amp4 class D, and pair of FR speakers. my 2.5year old daughter is an excellent helper loves to yell at me, "daddy, let's tinker!". she can tell caps and resistors apart from one another too .

Then you should have a subconscious yearning to discover everything for your self and, first and foremost, be rigorous!

If you are finding the number of options daunting then consider building something simpler to start off. A small portable amp like the mini3 would do.
I guarantee you that putting the effort into thoroughly understanding the build you are undertaking will lead to a better overall finished product.

Allowing time constraints to dictate how and what you build is one of the biggest mistakes you could make.
