The most downright depressive song you have ever heard - Page 3

There are many depressing myths surrounding Gloomy Sunday.

Seems like it is credited with a few suicides.

Breathe Me - Sia

+ YouTube Video

WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS A SPOILER

This song became an icon right after it was used in the final episode of Six Feet Under. When this song played during this greatest hour of television history, the water works came on and didn't turn off for 3 days. I was rattled to the very core. Now, like Pavlo's dogs, whenever I hear this song, I am brought back to this depressing but moving experience. There is a certain resignation and resolve about death that this song coupled with Six Feet Under makes profound.

On Stoner Rock/Metal side, pretty much anything by Kotiteollisuus is lyrically depressing as hell, that band is pretty much driven by Finnish melancholy anyway. But songs like Tämän Taivaan Alla ja Tuonelan Koivut are particularly strong. Too bad these go over the heads who dont understand finnish, but I'll post them anyway.

SO simple. Why don't they put instructions for that somewhere? Thank you!

This last one is just brilliant (mentioned it before). It is a poem by Edgar Allen Poe and put it to music:

In youth's spring, it was my lot
To haunt of the wide earth a spot
To which I could not love the less
So lovely was the loneliness
Of a wild lake, with black rock bound
And the tall trees that towered around

But when the night had thrown her pall
Upon that spot as upon all
And the wind would pass me by
In its stilly melody

My infant spirit would awake
To the terror of the lone lake
My infant spirit would awake
To the terror of the lone lake

Yet that terror was not fright
But a tremulous delight
And a feeling undefined
Springing from a darkened mind
Death was in that poisoned wave
And in its gulf a fitting grave
For him who thence could solace bring
To his dark imagining
Whose wildering though could even make
An Eden of that dim lake

But when the night had thrown her pall
Upon that spot as upon all
And the wind would pass me by
In its stilly melody

My infant spirit would awake
To the terror of the lone lake
My infant spirit would awake
To the terror of the lone lake

Springing from a darkened mind
So lovely was the loneliness
In youth's spring, it was my lot
In its stilly melody
An Eden of that dim lake
An Eden of that dim lake
Lone, lone, lonely...

For the zillion time on the radio at my work...for months, every day, every hour...*sigh*
Hang the mother****ing DJ!!!

Dude, when 'Viva La Vida' by Coldplay was fresh the same thing happened. Play a beautiful track over and over again and it becomes annoying. Guess why I seldomly listen to the radio...

'Rock'N Roll Suicide' by David Bowie, sorry if the spelling is wrong. Besides, don't underestimate 'With Or Without You' by U2. There's something about that track and that sound The Edge makes that hits me and doesn't let go for a while. 'Map Of Problematique' by Muse has that quality also.

"Wedding Bells" Hank Williams Sr. I won a bet with this one.

Good Evening Big Poppa,

A great choice of Wedding Bells, by Hank Williams. More than a few of Hank's songs would qualify. I like sad, sad songs.

"Atmosphere" by Joy Division. This is my favorite one. Soooo depressing. Ian Curtis was a depressed ****.

staind stuff.

Indeed you could probably fill a thread with solely Hank's and Johnny's material.

Two songs come to mind.

Esoteric - Beneath This Face

"Nothing remains
But a restless longing for death
Hidden, beneath this face"

Evoken - Antithesis of Light

"Eternity is dust - a churning sea of pale dementia
Burying, reaping beneath the ashen shroud of heaven
Desolate father of all time
Awaits the final breath
and stands a lonely vigil
To greet you in the inevitable darkness once again"

Soul-crushing pieces of pure depression.
