Yeah why are we talking about members with high posts counts being banned for scamming? Sure a lot have been banned recently but why are we assuming it was for scamming?

What am I missing?

What else can they possibly be banned for? I don't think the admins would be so quick to ban an old member for a minor argument or w.e Any other suggestions?

Not supposed to be speculating about moderator decisions. If anyone wants to continue this conversation I suggest taking it to PMs before posts start disappearing.

Exactly, and why do you keep thinking we're doing something wrong? The mods won't be censoring this conv. because we havent made any specific references.

Because you see the big red "BANNED" tag under their name?

Is it scamming too easy these day?

I'll say now, rather than go on a deletion spree that indeed, discussion of forum moderation isn't permitted.  I will only repeat what I've posted before, that regular members are only banned after repeatedly breaking the rules or causing trouble, even after they've been asked multiple times not to do whatever it is they are doing.  Please do stop with the discussion about it though, nothing at all with any substance can come from it and I don't want to have to delete posts.

I'll back up Currawong here.

First, not everyone who gets banned is a scammer. There are other reasons, too.

Second, these decisions are made privately. It was decided a long time ago not to air dirty laundry and hold people out for public humiliation. When people go over the edge, we clean it up and deal with it in private.

It isn't fun to ban people. We'd rather not have to do it. And it isn't done over minor things. You'll have to take my word for it, but some have been a few miles over the line.

Hypothetically (and I haven't seen this happen and am in no way referring to any member past or present), what if someone posted an obscenity-laced racist rant? Obviously, the post and all responses would have to go. The member would likely get a temporary ban and a stern warning.

Then they come back and do the same thing again.

In that case, the member has to go. They were well over the line, ignored a previous warning and ban, and continued with awful behavior that would derail any and all discussion if allowed to persist.

I'm not going to talk about anyone in particular, but some pretty ugly stuff shows up now and then. I wish people were level-headed and thought through the consequences of posting these sorts of things.

I was not asking how you know someone is banned. I asked how do you know that there has been a lot banned recently? What are the numbers?

Since this thread is way off-topic, and I have been contemplating starting a new one, I'm going to close this up.
