Got my ears molded today

I went to the audiologist today and got my ears filled with nasty silicone goop so they could make ear pieces. The doctor was really nice and she even explained that me opening my mouth was a natural reaction because my body is trying to change the pressure in the ear drum. After about 5 minutes of muffled awkwardness she pulled them out and let me take pics of them, so here they are:

They said I'd get them in two to three weeks, so I'm really excited about them.

So how are you going to use them?

Going to have them for my SE530's. I suspect one of two scenarios:
1) I will be treated like a deaf person
2) I will be ignored by homeless people, stupid PETA, ASPCA, and Girl Scout cookie sellers because they think I'm deaf.

This is basically win/win for me.

^ lol...

Your signature showing SE530 coiming in the mail...You actually want to reshell a new SE530? I think people usually wait till their warranty ends before deciding on reshell.

it's not a re-shell, they are attachements, like a tip that's custom molded to my ears.

^ Oh so you will be only treated as half deaf, and half-ignored by those scout girls

I find that a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp is better for keeping the plebs away. Works for me, anyway....

On seeing my customs my housemate immediately thought I had hearing aids so they will most definitely make you look deaf!
I find if Im wearing any headphones around chuggers they don't tend to try and stop me anyway.

plus having the 530's PTH just makes it look even more like a hearing aid. Oh this is going to be great. I might finally get a chance to actually enjoy an afternoon running errands.

Looks very promising. Good luck!
What is the source (company) for the custom molds?

Enjoy the SE530s. With a proper fit they are one of the best headphones in the world IMO.

Very interesting. What cost are we talking about for these "super tips"?

super tips? Well the earmolds cost 150, and the place that I had them done only charged 25 dollars for the impressions, so 175 for everything.

I had this done for my (now sold) SE530's and it was the best small investment ever. My tips were done more like the UM56 stye where they were litterly tips and not moulded around the earphone itself (as much as that would have been my preference) but it means i can use them with other shures (and westone i think too?) if - heaven forbid - i ever went back to universals

Yea, these seem like a really good investment. I've basically been waiting out for close to 5 years while I was in grad school. Now that I've graduated and have a job (that doesn't pay me a pittance) I'm on a massive buying binge as my friends have been telling me. Most likely I'll be adding a whole bunch of other phones, both full sized and earphones to my collection. I'm also in the process of building a vacuum tube amp. So yea, I've been living off my e2c's and my technics for a few years so I think I deserve a chance to spoil myself
