Anyone else amazed by how well the hd600 scale?

Thread Starter
I bought the hd600 almost 6 years ago because the reviews were not only great, but the consensus was that as your components improve you can get more and more out of them. I've made a lot of changes over the years and with every change the 600's sound better and better. I don't believe I'm anywhere close to reaching their maximum potential. The last change has been more powerful tubes in my amp (initially for a different set of headphones) and I can't believe what they've done to the sound coming out of the 600's. I wouldn't have thought it was possible.

What amazes me is how HD600 is almost completely ignored by everyone here.

It's not ignored. Far to the contrary, many of us have HD600's that stay with us through all the new FOTM headphones that come out. I've bought and sold a Sony SA5000, Ultrasone Pro 750, Ultrasone Edition 9, and Grado HF-2, but my HD600's are here to stay, and have been for years.

They're just so well known and accepted as a "jack of all trades" headphone that few people comment on them anymore.

A lot of people get the HD650 over the HD600 because. . . . of the numerical differences. It seems silly but it's true.

I saw more positive reviews for 600 than 650.. When they are compared ..
I want to try out a 600.. More than 650..

I love my HD600s. They just seem to get better and better the more power you feed into it.

These are seriously one of the most natural sounding headphones I've heard (haven't tried the more expensive 700+ dollar HPs).

I had the HD 600 and the HD 650 at the same time and chose the HD 650 for my liking. Man there was such a closeness to these and I agree they are an excellent all around phone. Can't wait to hear them on the new ROC balanced with the Headphile Blacksilver that is setting here looking at me. LOL I honestly liked them both and may even buy another pair of the 600's just to have them.

Just make sure to keep the HD600 this time so you don't have to buy it a third time .

Pretty good advice, I will have to remember that, LOL.,

how's the bass on the hd600's ?
I like the bass on the HD 650 better but the bass isn't neceszsarily lacking on the 600 either. The bass is there if it is in the music but it is not a bass heavy phone by any means. Not being a bass head I find the entire sound spectrum excellent and balanced on both. Hope that all made sense.

The opposite is true IME.

I preferred the HD650 to the HD600 when driven properly, but with lower end gear the HD600 seems to sound a bit more balanced and fast.
