Received iBasso T3...no increase in SQ at all? - Page 3

i barely notice a difference in sq using my pico as an amp only. i am not sure i could tell if my eyes were closed. using the dac vs my sound card is another story though.

I noticed LOD(cables) made huge difference especialy physical sense of soundstage, bass and details. The Cryo cables like ALO 18AWG CXS or 18AWG jumbo Cryo dock cables are much better if you want bigger sound, details and bass (“Don’t let your interconnects be the weakest link”). BTW difference i noticed between ALO Cotton dock, ALO AU/AG dock vs ALO 22AWG Cryo dock is big enough and 22AWG Cryo wins.

I was using a t3 for about 3 months with my s639 and I definitely heard a difference compared to listening straight out of my ipod. For the time I used the amp, I thought it really made the difference that made me grab my s639 + t3 every day instead of the ipod. But then one day I took it off and compared it to listening straight out of the sony and realized that the difference was the difference between my walkman and ipod.

I have read that amping a walkman really doesn't do much, and I would definitely agree. I did try the t3 with my ipod and clip+ and noticed a difference (even through the hp out), but combined they still weren't as good as my walkman. I mostly use the t3 now with my digital piano, which it actually does wonders for.

With the T3, I agree 100%. The D4 does give you a noticeable improvement. imo - not so much in volume terms, but I do notice that there is less 'oomph' when I unplug the D4 and go back to the X unamped. That said, I think the X has one of the best amps of any player out there.

Sony's amps are over emphasised in the low registers - no portable amp is as bassy as they are even when flat. If there is bass boost, it is often bigger (on an amp), but Sony definitely have oomph. The T3 hisses less than any Sony I've used other than my E636 and depending on the amp, can have better L/R separation, but there isn't that much to brag about on a number of issues.

Agreed, i remember how much people talk up the X series, and i plugged my jh-13's into one at the mall, and instantly unplugged them, the hiss was awful, i could even hear it pretty clearly during music playback

My hunch is that the OP's amp isn't defective. Whether or not its true that dynamic based IEMs don't improve with amping is for folks here to argue about. My experience with the various portable amps and my IE8 left me quite underwhelmed with them. There was simply no appreciable improvement to my ears. The sony X1060 walkman is the only source/amp that made a significant difference to my listening experience and I tried Alo Rx, IQube V1/V2, ibasso D4 and now I own a D10. The D10 seems to make the biggest superficial difference with these phones and even that I am willing to give up. Its not fun trying to see if an amp costing $300 and more is making a difference.

All depends on your source,mp3 quality and your phones as said above

With my ipod Nano & AKG k414P @32 Ohm the SQ increases but there is no "huge" difference.

With AT-ATH m50 you can absolutely notice the diffence in volume and SQ. Its perfect for them, even tho a D4 could do wonders for them, but its another price range of course...

could always get used! That is another price range too!

Sorry don't mean to revive a somewhat older thread, but OP i'm just curious how the replacement T3 turned out for you?

Wow this was an old thread :/
But yea not all IEMs will benefit from amping... quite frankly looking back on it.... I got almost 0 increase in sound with a T4 and my PFE 112s.... it just didn't do it for me.

Now on the other hand amping the UM3Xs (triple driver IEM) with the ALO Rx is a night and day difference. Amazing how these phones can scale with the source.
