Can someone recommend a good place to find either pure silver or silver plated copper wire? This is for building my own headphone cable. Thanks.

You could easily find the answer by searching, but Navships on EBay is the way to go.

I'll second navships. I've only bought once, but it's good quality at a good price with plenty of selection.

navships is the man for SPC, I haven't found any better deals on the stuff anywhere.

Navships updates the website frequently. The majority of his stock is surplus and you never know what is available each day. If you don't see what you're looking for, try again another time.

make sure to sleeve that navships stuff, its the most horrendously microphonic wire i've ever encountered and actuallty because of this, I feel its totally unsuitable for a headphone cable, unless you spend as much on damping and sleeving as the wire

Got my silver wire from Homegrown audio... Very good value IMO

x2.

Cotton or multifilament. My first recable was with Navships SPC and techflex. I think I described the sound when it brushed against my desk as someone trying to saw my ears off. Scared the hell out of me.

Darn, I was just going to braid mines. I bought the purple ones and thought it would look nice braided. I did order some techflex as well though just in case. Where do you get your cotton or multifilament from? any general store? and do you just stuff it in the techflex?

I haven't ordered from them personally, but I remember hearing good things about vt4c.com for silver wire. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than HGA (although HGA used to have some outrageously good sales every now and then, I don't know if they still do), but they are located overseas so it could take a while.

Edit: And to answer your latest question, I've gotten nylon multifilament from cableorganizer.com and wirecare.com, both seem pretty good. You'll need nylon multifilament if you want to reduce microphonics, TechFlex will probably exacerbate the problem. Also keep in mind that nylon doesn't expand very much (I've had good success with 1/8th nylon for sleeving 3-4 wire braids), whereas TechFlex can expand a ton. If I understand the last question, I would advice against Techflex over nylon over wire, since that would lead to one stiff cable (chubby enough for interconnects, likely unbearable for a headphone cable).

I just have my cable techflexed and it isn't microphonic at all.
