Superfi5Pro vs TripleFi ?

Thread Starter
I have been a happy owner of the Superfi5pro for about 3 years, however, considering the low price of the Triplefis I am considering the upgrade.

I was wondering if any of you have both.

I would like to know if the sound signature is the same.

Also I would like to know also if the Triplefi are as efficient as the Superfi5Pros.

I do not use external amps and I have a Sony mp3 player ( files 192-256mbps).

Thanks

Well, Triple.fi is an upgrade in treble region, has more detail in the bass, and is more dynamic and slightly more 3D sounding as well, but it has problems in the midrange and upper bass. In particular, the mids are even less refined than those on Super.fi 5 Pro while the upper bass can sometimes intrude into the lower mids, which does not happen in Super.fi 5 Pro. If you want a real upgrade in just about all areas of sound reproduction, I recommend Ortofon e-Q7. It will sound more detailed and refined than UE Super.fi 5 Pro all around and also sounds better balanced in the bass and treble with less emphasis on those regions than Super.fi 5 Pro.

I liked my 5EB's, but I love my triple.fis! I especially love them with the null audio cable.

Nice. How does the sound of Triple.fi change to your ears with the cable upgrade?

is that the lune or the enyo? i always wondered how their cables changed the sound. also is it less microphonic than the stock?

It really has zero microphonic quality that I can notice.

Bass and treble both seem a bit further extended. I swear there is just more texture where things used to be on the 'muddy' side.

I was not expecting any sq improvements. I bought the cable to have the nice 90 degree termination. I am very happy with my purchase!

Does the midrange still sound the same with this cable?

TF10Pro is less efficient than SFP. If you like SFP, W3 is a closer sound sig but MUCH more refined sounding. TF10Pro sounds nothing like SFP. Just be aware of that.

I would say so. All over though, they sound a bit punchier.

BTW, I put my triple.fi's a bit a head of my SE530's and a lot ahead of my super.fi5EB's.

I hated the super.fi 5 Pro. I preferred the iBuds and KSC75 to them, they sounded so dull, muddy, and recessed.

The triple.fi 10 (Pro) is a totally different story, sound-wise. The whole frequency scale is tipped to favor the high side of things, which means for the most part, the music will sound rough and bright. It's definitely not a reference IEM, but I consider it to be the best choice when I want a bright, fast sound that seems like a distant cousin of a Grado. There's no bite or punch to anything though, unlike a Grado and its guitars.

Sounds like you either plugged them into a source that they didn't like, or you got a defective pair. I know that with some sources, my Super.fi 5 Pros also sounded exactly as you described. If you drive them properly, they sound a lot more like Triple.fi, just a bit less detailed, less neutral in the treble, less refined and with less depth to the sound. But I really didn't like the mids on Triple.fi. Super.fi 5 Pro sounded more balanced in the mids to my ears.

I owned a SF5 Pro for several years and I loved it. Then I upgraded to the TF10 when it went on sale for $99. To my ears they are just as efficient as the SF5 Pro, and with a similar sound signature. Other than the bass being much deeper compared to the SF5 Pro, I feel like the mids might be more recessed but this might just be in relation to the increased bass. It's a great upgrade for me though, I love it.
