There's this guy that I know of who was not able to finish high school due to a drug-bust. He signed-up (Canadian) and is now a Navy pilot. How 'bout that? It depends on people. For this guy, "other channels" would be selling more drugs, and which people around him does he enrich?
OP: If you want military, but is not 100% solid, try Reserves.

Please qualify your statement. If your just anti-military or if you served and disliked the experience, it would be more helpful to the OP to say that.

My advice to you is to take the ASVAB test and talk to a recruiter to see what they can offer you. Make sure you have the agreement in writing in the contract. Once that is done you go for it. For me the US Army was where I had and raised by children (4) and they got to experience Germany, Italy, Holland, Japan, Okinawa and France along with almost every country in Europe. They are all doing fine now and still talk about all the fun they had overseas. Instead of goofing off all your time in the military get as much college at night and stuff as you can as almost all college's accept the military college time for credit and you can really put a dent in a degree and it is dirt cheap while on active duty. Well, that is my 2 cents.

Well said, I have no regrets to joint US military

If training and skills are what you are after then my advice to you is to talk to all branches of service. You can do that! Any branch can get the results of your ASVAB and if one branch does not offer you the schooling and trade you want then talk to another. You would be surprised how each branch qualifies you differently for each type of schooling. I am not sure from experience that any one branch is really better than another. I for one feel that the important issue is the attitude of the enlistee and their dedication to their commitment. Your altitude in life is almost always determined by your attitude.

I already did, but the mods pulled the thread and part cleaned it up. Despite the fact there was zero political commentary, although one of my posts did contain the word political

Yeah all my non-political posts were also deleted. Seems around head-fi if you're against the mods idealism, be it pro-war, pro-guns you name it... it will be deleted as 'politics'. The OP should know many more people expressed their opinions against ones future but someone doesn't want you to see them.
