Sorry if this Q has been asked 100000000000 times but can someone tell me what DAC does the Fuze use, is it a Wolfson ?

It uses this SoC Ams, that includes a sigma delta converter

AS3525 - ARM9 analog-integrated microcontroller - austriamicrosystems

The processor, I/O controller, DAC, and even the amp are all in one chip. It is pretty fascinating if you take a read on its data sheet.

Agree, the chip has a great deal of potential that I believe the Fuze is not quite utilizing to it's full extent.

When you said potential what do you mean, in what way could it be utilized ?

and what is inside Clip+?may I ask?same chip?

I believe the Clip uses same chip or platform as the Fuze, here's a link that seems to confirm this.
SanDisk AMS Sansa Series

The AS3536 microcontroller that the Fuze uses has according to specs.: 2 line inputs, 2 microphone inputs, Line output, Stereo Headphone Audio Amplifier, Stereo Speaker Audio Amplifier , 10 Channel Audio Mixer. Not all of these possibilities are used in the Fuze.

For instance we have seen that different types of LOD's has over the past couple of years been developed by other parties, but Sansa should actually be able to employ this functionality as well, maybe even through the headphone out.
A line input for stereo recordings could be a possibility as well. But all of this would probably need certain upgrades, circuit wise, FW improvement and also a better battery than the 3.7V 550 mAh to power all this.

Is this the same in the V1 and V2?

I've always wondered if you couldn't source the SoC used in the clip/fuze and produce a DIY player based on the Rockbox platform. You would have a lot of possibilities in regards to headphone amp, capacity, etc.

@Mesasone. Regarding diff. between V1 and V2. Great question and you're right, apparently there's difference. Originally, I just wanted to answer the OP's question regarding what DAC (which is not a wolfson) the Fuze uses.

To be more specific, and to my knowledge: Fuze V1 uses the AS3535 SoC, and so far I believe the clip V1 does as well.
The Fuze V2 may use a different version named SoC AS3531. Maybe one of the reasons that the V2 yet can't be rockboxed, due to the lack of data that is available for this particular platform.

Why would I want an DAP with all that inside?
All I need it to do is the play music lol

so how much of an improvement would a USB DAC like the Pico DAC or Devilsound 2.1 be vs Sansa Fuze + good LOD?
