A nice walking staff, portable fishing rig, electronic butane lighter & fuel, small tool roll, waterproof survival kit, quality hiking socks, troll cookies.....

Is a small point & shoot camera in the budget? Sometimes small & handy beats sophisticated, especially when portability is the order. And I can say that the things I value most from my travels are 1) friends 2) memories of stupid things 3) photos...mostly to remind me of 1 & 2.
