dumb question:stepped attenuators

Thread Starter
do stepped attenuators work as voltage dividers?

on a regular pot, you divide 10k or 50k or what have you between ground and the output, in effect having 2 resistors that add up to the total resistance at each step.

stepped attenuators only have one resistor per channel at each step, so am i missing something?

i thought the whole selling point of a stepped attenuator was that you were only going through one resistor, apparently not

Where did you hear/see that at?
Are you talking about a shunt pot?
