Sorry Paul

Now I know why my post disapeared. I thought I entered it on a different forum. These will be mine!

Hello.
Is the cup on the edition 8 actually made of metal plated with rare metal?
The rest of the parts of the headphone certainly feels like aluminium but when I touch the cups they feel more like plated plastic.

Hi,

the earcups of Edition8 are not pure metal, they are made of plastic, plated with several layers of different metals.

Have a nice day!

Should we worry about fastness of plastic based plating? Cause' it is often said that metal based would be more solid. Why not adopt full metal structure?

Can you tell me what is the word "adorned" means? Is it just a cover attached to the cup or is it actually plated to the inside structure. Do we know how thick is the compound as in mm? and do we know if it is Palladium 950 or do we know the percent of purity of palladium? Thanks.

Are we talking about something we listen to and enjoy here?

Yes, we are talking about something we listen to, look at, touch and feel and enjoy here.

The Palladium seems to be just for you then. I'm sure their appearance and feel will enhance their sound for you. Enjoy.

Thanks, but I still need to get more info on the details.

Feel I don´t know. you can feel that there is plastics inside if you put some pressure to them. Good compromise though since I wouldn´t want to wear the weight of all metal Edition 8s. But I suppose if you are a metal head you may be disappointed with it not being 100 % pure metal. Such a headphone would sound real crap though you need better dampening materials inside

Try moving your head with a heavy phone, you can't. I had the PS-1 and I would need to remain completely still to keep them intact.

I can with the DX 1000 it just wobbles some lol. Definiatly see your point that one can get heavy.

Feel I want to take back the comment about feeling the plastics... I dont currently. Must been some placebo effect lol.

Well, I just want to make clear that I am not saying I prefer all metal or even half for that matter. But I understand Palladium is even more expensive per oz. than platinum, like $1500.00/oz. So out of curiosity, I just want to know how much palladium is actually used in the outside cover. This has nothing to do with SQ, it is just that if you spend $1700.00 on an item in a hobby, you like to know all the little bits of information. It is part of the fun. Beside, when something use the word palladium to describes the main feature of the ED8-palladium version, it just arouse curiosity. May be it's just one gram or 1 percent of the compound is palladium, then what is the rest? aluminum or steel or what? Ultrasone advertise it as the most luxurious or precious metal used in hp.

How much more expensive is palladium over ruthenium? From what I have read there is layers of nickel underneith the ruthenium so may be something similar for the Palladium version? Maybe email Ultrasone directly they are the only ones that really now. I doubt anyone is dissecting their ED 8s
