Not a great active sport, but that's not the point.
Contrary to what non golfers might think, golf is actually a great workout. You burn tons of calories walking up and down hills carrying heavy equipment, and you need quite a bit of stamina and fitness to survive a full round without being sloppy towards the end, its also great at stretching all the upper body muscles and helps with good blood flow and toning. Yes its not entirely physical compared to some of the other sports, but its a great sport to keep fit and maintain a good overall level of fitness. All this is assuming ofcourse if you play proper games and dont just go to the range, or drive around in the golf carts all day.

I have some used Dunlop and Ping clubs, and Wilson drivers and woods. I'm looking to get a nice iron set sometime soon.

Love golf! I hope to get out more this year than last, though i did play about 35 rounds last year. In anticipation of the weather getting better I went last week and had my irons and driver re-gripped. I got the new golf prides on sale for 6.50 per, worked out to $75 after install and taxes.

I play with Nike NDS irons, Nike dymo SQ2 driver (9.5 and stiff shaft) and callaway big bertha fairway woods (3&5). I also carry a 60 degree wedge to go with the NDS PW. Planning on replacing the Berthas and buying new putter as I am using an old but reliable ping.

one thing i realized is that the amount of athleticism you have does not really matter in golf, compared to most other sports. it's all about knowing the game, and the amount of practice most importantly. i am a pretty athletic guy (all-state basketball/football/track&field in high school, all-american track&field in college, etc) but i really really really suck at golf. in the beginning, i was cussing and throwing my clubs whenever i didnt hit the ball well which was pretty much every single time. then i finally accepted the fact that i was a super newb, and started going to the range at least twice a week during the winter.

thanks to golf, i think i've calmed down a lot more, not just in golf but as a person in general. i wish i started playing back in the early 90s when my parents were begging me to play golf. i could've been competing against the pros instead of being stuck in a cubicle.

btw, what ball do you guys use?
i am thinking about using pro v1x this year. seems like a good choice for someone with fast swings.
Prov1 is the best ball out there right now, second would be bridgestone. Your right about practice, it makes a huge difference. Also check out some of the swings on youtube. Particularly Ben Hogan, it helped me out a bunch. Cheers and happy golfing.

Used to play many years ago. I really enjoyed it but never got that good at it. My favorite part of the game was riding around in the cart drinking beer and smoking them left-handed cigarettes. Maybe that's why I never got that good at it.

How else can you bear the patience of waiting for the groups in front of you looking for balls?

I can relate to your analogy of excitement. What a difference an amp makes to a quality pair of cans.

I used to play golf when I was a kid. I started when I was around 8 years old and stopped at maybe 14.
